Steering assistance amended on Alpina D5 bi turbo - retrofit elsewhere?
All,
Many people have complianed about the electric steering on the F10. I've read that Alpina have changed the steering assistance on the D5 . I don't know any more than that - read it in the magazine BMW Car. I was wondering, if they can do that, is it a simple step for that change to be applied to more standard F10s? Is it just a simple software change? If so, I wonder if that could be something that be done at a (Alpina) dealership for other cars? |

Alpina's are almost completely assembled in the BMW Dingolfing factory according to Alpina specifications. At the final production step at the Alpina workshop in Buchloe, Alpina is just adding those few items BMW can't do (probably for a reasonable cost) in their production line, i.e. additional engine coolers.
In other words, nothing is "retrofitted" by Alpina nowadays. That's why Alpina is considered as a car maker, as opposed to a tuning company who are modifying production cars. Note that the BMW xDrive models are apparently also not equipped with the electric steering (then again, the steering feel of the 550iX and the B5 are completely different).
