F10 LCI Vibration free on the highway?
Hi everyone!
I´m thinking about ordering an F10 but am worried about the vibration issue where the whole car vibrates slightly at around 100-120 km/h (I have lemoned one F10 for this defect). Has BMW solved the extreme wheel/tire sensitivity of the chassis for the LCI? Will I be doing endless road force balancing etc all over again if I buy an LCI, or will the car be smooth as glass? Appreciate everyone´s input on this! |

My 2012 535xi had a vibration on the highway between 65-70 MPH starting from new. BMW made it better but the problem was never completely fix. I just traded it in for a 2015 535xi two months ago, so far no vibration what so ever on the highway. The transmission is also much smoother at low speed acceleration.

No vibration with my 2013 535X Drive until late summer, right after I hit a pot hole. Tires looked fine. It appeared at 50 mph and up. I procrastinated until late fall (too busy to take it in) and them put my winter set on. problem went away, so I must have a bad tire causing the vibration. Otherwise everything is smooth.

Very easy to get bent rims and ruin the runflat tires in this car. A lot of time, you won't even notice it because the car is so good at isolating road noise, vibrations and harshness.
Have your wheels checked if you feel any vibration. If you can feel a little vibration inside the cabin, then it's probably a real problem in this car. |

I'll have it checked out. I didn't see any impact damage though.

They couldn't take it in immediately so they swapped the rims front to back, and vibration moved into my seat, nothing at all on steering wheel after the swap. Easy fix, not crazy expensive, no issues since. |

Great question in this thread... here's my story.
Currently I am driving an F32 430d. The first time I was driving long distance on highway on high speed I found a very uncomfortable vibration of the car beginning at 120 km/h. It was obvious, and it was not the feedback from the road surface, as I was carefully noticing it on different surfaces. Interestingly the vibration was only there after the first 10-20 kms, usually first time speeding out till 250 km/h on the highway was smooth as butter, but after the first time I slowed down to normat speeds (or the whole drivetraind reached normal heat, whatever), this very annyoing vibration was there continously... The vibration was felt on the whole body of car especially in the seats and the nbottom of the car, sometimes on the steering wheel too. I changed the tyre set from factory RFT to non-RFT, wheels were balanced several times. Then changed the complete set of wheels to factory winter set (tyres and allyos). But the problem has been the same. Now in my point of view this problem which really sounds like a wheel/tyre problem is not coming from the wheels and tyres. My dealer had confirmed the problem, but has absolutely no clue on the solution, nor does the importer or the BMW AG (they did report the problem). So they started changing parts in terms of warranty, but this is a long procedure as they need to get authorization for every single move. First they changed the brake discs, but that did not solve the problem either... At this point I decided to sell the car and upgrade to a F10 LCI. But... I took my friends pre-LCI 530d for a test drive yesterday. And guess what, I felt the exact same vibration as on my car (it had 17" winter tyres on). Now I am a bit shocked. My friend said he's not aware of the problem, which I understand as for 99% he uses the car driving in town and commuting on small roads from the suburbs. Now I am asking if anybody had this kind of problem resolved? |
