Question Bang & Olufsen

To those who bought a F10 and opted the B&O, is it worth paying for this sound system?

I was going to get this option, but decided not to. After listening to the hi-fi premium sound vs B&O, subtle difference to me but definitely not worth the extra $3000. Decided to spend the extra $ on better wheels. But if you have $ to spare, why not go for it. Hope that helps.

I have it and love it. I think the most noticeable difference is just the purity, especially at higher volumes. If you're someone who really enjoys listening to music or what have you in your car then it's worth it. If you don't care as much then the premium is plenty as the above person said.

I have the B&O and would never spend the $$ again. For a few days I thought they forgot to install the Sub it was that bad. I have heard better in a rental car. Just go with the Premium sound you will be happy

I couldn't disagree with the previous post more. I have the B&O in my new 13' 550i and I love the damn thing. I have found myself just sitting in my car and listening. It is at least twice as good as the premium system I had in my Infiniti M37

The same money spent on an aftermarket digital setup is going to be a much better buy.

Mobridge (Most to tosslink fiber optic interface)
Audison Bitone (Processor)
Hertz HDP-5 (Amps quantity 2)
Earthquake SWS-8XI (Subs for retro under front seats)
JL Audio 8w7 Single sub installed in the trunk

All this for the same money, not one wire gets cut, sound will blow away the BO system. Keeping the factory hifi speakers optional, with proper amplification and tuning these sound great. This configuration will allow for active control on the front stage.

I will say that although this is probably true, for those that lease and don't want to mess with things the B&O seemed totally worth it to me over premium sound.

Remove it and put it in your next car. Buy the BO and pay for 30-40% of it and give it back. A decision each individual can make for sure. I'm all about representing my money on the front and the back so I co custom every time.

Keep in mind, this setup you don't cut wires so no problem going back to stock.

I took it back to the dealer because I thought there was something wrong as it sounded so bad. I ended up getting a JL audio Sub installed and its better but still not worth the money for the B&O. The radio in my GMC Denali even sounds better.

Look up a few threads and there it is. I know how to do it if you have specific questions. The only difference is if you want to stay 100% digital I recommend switching the amp spec to Audison Voce. This will allow you to convert from most to toslink into the Bitone and back out to the amps. 100% to toslink / Digital.

I also started a thread about this question

Here the B&O cost four times as much as the HiFi prof so I didn't go for the B&O.

I have the hifi pro on my F06 and I have no regret not getting the B&O.

The following story sums it up pretty well.

My friend was waiting of his Porsche Panamera GTS delivery and wanted to test how his music on the USB sounded in car. So he brought his music on his USB and tested on my F06. Sounded fine. He wonders whether the BOSE in his GTS will sound better. So I asked him to tell me after he got his car.

Fast forward to 3-weeks post GTS delivery. I asked him how the BOSE system sounded. My friend said he did not know.

I said, "You did not know how to turn on the system?" He just said, "No, the music in the GTS is the exhaust note. Why contaminate with other noises?" I tend to agree as I test drove the GTS. The exhaust note was intoxicating! And he is decent enough not to rub it in further with comments like "I guess you guys will have to listen to fake engine sounds......"

Which brings me back to thinking. Has BMW truly lost its way..... Here we are, talking about stereo upgrades, and yet, BMW has lost all those little fine details that made driving a BMW exciting. And really had to add it all back via artificial recorded engine noises and artificial steering response......

I still remembered when I had my AMG C55. I had to had it to the AMG guys as they opened up a duct specifically to channel engine/exhaust note to the cabin, that made a world of difference......

Ah well, enough ranting. Pretty soon, we will feel like we live in a Matrix, where everything seems not quite right.......

And I'm glad didn't get the B&O and save the money because I think the HIFI prof sounds great.

I was disappointed with the non-B&O standard system and at first regretted not getting it. However, I'm now convinced that spending the same money (or less) in aftermarket speakers and maybe sub is the way to go.

I have a left door speaker grille vibration in the B&O system. The dealer tried to order a replacement but they are not made!

Mine is doing the same thing, they tried to do something to fix it but I don't think it worked. It seems two of mine are doing it. They said that if they have to they'll just have the part custom made, which should still be under warranty. Make your dealer do this as well, if mine will yours should.
