Speculation: The F10 run-out model.
The F10 will be the 'current' 5 series for another 18 months, or so. Historically, BMW (as with other manufacturers) have "Special Editions" towards the end of the production run. The truth, of course, is that they are run-out specials! The sometimes indicate the kind of spec levels the incoming car will have as standard.
The E60 had "Business Edition", the E90 had "M Sport Plus" and so on. I wonder what they will do for the F10? My guess is something to do with Pro Nav as standard (it already is on 4 series M Sports), in terms of wheels the 351M wheels are already part of MSport+, so maybe more of an equipment upgrade, making what was Sport + the baseline, rather than a specific special edition. |

Interesting, I noticed yesterday that, by Sept, every model in their range will have basic SatNav by Sept15 .... neighbour is teed off as he's just completed a new car order and paid some £1800 for pro-NAV upgrade. One thing you can be sure of is that the F10/11 LCI @ 18 months has already hit 50% depreciation, so you need to get a new model on order to soften that blow !

Fortunately, the huge discounts available on F10s at present - often 20% or more - offset a good chunk of that.

Yes, I was going to mention that the luxury gets nav. I think F10s are almost unsaleable without the wider nav screen.
I guess they will offer the equivalent of the M Sport Plus pack on run out M Sports and perhaps throw pro nav in as well. Maybe Luxury will get free metallic (on 4 cylinder) and 19s if indeed there are any incentives on that trim. The E90/91 Exclusive Edition was nice and I was in the process of choosing a company car at the time but it was only offered as 18/20 engines in UK. A 330d Se was cheaper to lease (than the 20d) and I didn't mind cloth seats

I hand't realised that Business Nav wasn't standard fit until the LCI. Spec-wise the F10 did pretty well from the LCI when Xenons and Business Nav became standard-fit. I think these are standard on the Merc E class too.
Texasjohn, you're right the E9x editions were lovely, currently looking at an E92 Sport Plus 330d for the other half at the moment, its a beautiful car. Personally, I think the exterior and interior design are superior to the 4 series and the interior quality feels better too. |

I'm not sure I follow, I'm on a PCP, so would have thought I'd loose more by changing earlier, rather than towards the end?

Nav as standard is bad for us used buyers - I notice more and more now that Pro Nav is harder to find as most people seemed to think the standard fit LCI Business Nav was sufficient. Pre LCI Pro Nav was much more common.

I bought an f11 520d last year as an AUC. 8 months old and 36% off retail price. With that in mind 50% at the 18month mark whilst horrendous sounds perfectly plausible.

If you wait till the end of your PCP you do indeed get the guaranteed Future Value, but trade in at about 2 years and you will have little equity in the car.

True. But who pays retail price for a new car these days? Work at it and you can get 25% off a new factory order F10, more if it's a stock vehicle. I know, because I did...

Fully agree, anyone who pays list price for one of these cars is in for a massive shock come trade in time. It begs the question, does anyone actually pay list price? And if no one does pay list then surely BMW could get more sales by dropping the list price to begin with.

It might sound plausible but I can't see any of these cars for sale. I'd buy one if I could, I had to buy a 4 year old 530d to get 50% off list when new! I'm now looking for a 535 and the money everyone seems to want for 4-5 year old cars is insane.

I suspect that the 520d residuals may be lower because they are easy to get hold of, plenty of choice. Far fewer 530 and 535s around so potentially more demand. But possibly when talking the higher initial retail cost for these models it may even out.

With the larger discounts these days, not surprising the residuals are dropping.
I managed to get my Ex BMW HQ 535i at 40% under list, 15 months old and sub 6k miles, from a main dealer. That was a very good deal back in 2012, even for the petrol. HighlandPete |

Any word on the F10 run-out model, still nothing and they usually have one before the announcement of the next model which should be very soon

I disagree about the E60, I had a 520d M Sport Business edition when a colleague had the standard model and it had Leather, Sat Nav and Bluetooth for £1,000. A bargain! |

Yea, but the 520d M Sport Business Edition only added the Business Nav not the Prof Nav.

BMW are clearly making the last F10s available to lease companies for not much money. I saw a 530d Msport recently for 320 a month (Inc VAT). Over 3 years the car would depreciate 30k and you can lease it for 15. Bargain!
