The thing to know about "strategy" press releases like this (where there is no product announcement) is that the corporation is just trying to get some press. These are commonly reactionary or preemptive to an anticipated move by the competition.

Consider MB and all their C class FUD plus Audi/VAG in the news with all their MLB plans and strategy..... PRs are how a corporation gets articles written seeded by stuff they themselves write.

Here it is May 6th and there's still no order guides for the 2014 5 series (BTW, they were published May 15 for MY 2013), no more auto shows till September, BMW has no announcement so the PR department is told to write a piece like this so the competition doesn't dominate the press.

interesting none the less.
I like the idea of teh driving assistant which seem to address what might be considered a limnitation of the forward alert collision system where this seems to imply ful braking force will be applied whereas today , its not the case.

There is a PDF as well in this link which details everything.

Yes, I noticed that braking change. It had been discussed here I think. Most BMW drivers don't want it. Audi already has the full braking as does Volvo so it's a jacks or better to compete.

well as long as you have the option to turn off then everyone is happy.
You can turn the current one off if you want. in a year of owning my 530d, I've only had forward collision alert 'kick in' once and that took me by surprise as I was already turning away from a car on a roundabout.

I' don't get the launch control on the automatic. In fact I don't get launch control at all for a road car, on the track, fair enough. Must cause a fair amount of wear and stress on the components surely?

interesting.

Wonder how many of you with ACC actually turn off the forward collision alert function. (switch under the light switch)

I hate launch control. Its fine at stock levels, but once modded you just stay spinning.
