How fast am I going???

Anyone have this issue?

When I drive in DS I rest my right arm on the center console with my hand on the shifter, my left arm is at noon on the steering wheel. Slightly leaning to the right, aka a lil pimp lean . My arm completely blocks the speedometer! Lol I have to completely lean my body left/right to see, all I can see is the RPM gauge. No HUD...

I'm tall so I've got the seat set pretty far back...nothing to complain about. Just curious if anyone else has this issue?

You should have both hands on the steering wheel. That will do two things... a) ensure you have full control of the car and .. rather magically... b) ensure you can see the dash... lol

No, I tend to use Cruise Control 95% of the time so I always know what speed I have set it too...

...even on the 30 and 40 mph sections, that way I know I NEVER get a photo taken of me by those quaint little cameras on the side of the road and on top of that I can keep my eyes on the road and concentrate 100%

also, if you are involved in an accident and the airbag deploys, it will push your arm straight into your face - which is going to spoil your day!
Ten to two or Quarter to Three is supposed to be the way to hold the wheel.
HUD does help though , on my car I can't read the top of the dials but the HUD gets round that

Can't you get a proper driving position and see all the dials? It should be possible. I've no issues with seeing all of the display. BTW, I'm 5' 9".

I think the manual actually states 9 and 3 now. Must be due to the air bag

Lol everyone is so serious...just kidding around. Drive as I should 95% of the time. I'm 6'7, driven SUVs all my life, 535i is my first car. Just a little thing I noticed.

Re not seeing the top of the dials, yes I can see if I lower the seat but prefer the sit up as high as possible. I'm 5'10" and have the seat at its highest position. I personally don't like feeling like I'm sitting on the floor.
Each to their own.
I'm comfortable with this and the HUD means I can see the relevant infor anyway, I spend most time looking at that rather than the instrument cluster anyway.

We discuss highly engineered German automobiles on this forum and we take proper hand position very, very seriously. No one hand driving for you!

+1 never have just 1 hand on the wheel when driving.
This is a very bad habit and not fun to drive.

Buy a mini. The speedo is in the center of the vehicle. So you can get your pimp lean on all day.

Aint nothing wrong with a little gangsta one arm steering every now and then...it's like saying "I never speed!" Lol

On a more mature note, 8 and 4 is the prescribed driving method in emergency vehicle operations for tactical movements. I just try to make it a habit of driving this way since its a tried and true method prescribed not only by civilian law enforcement but by the US Army.

*This method will allow a person of any height to see the speedometer when a HUD is not present.

We don't drive police cars or humvees.
I attended both safe and sport BMW driving classes and 9:15 is the rule

Whatever works for the individual...just contributing my experience. Either way, I don't think any of these are "the" way but "a" way to operate the vehicle. Driver skill is the biggest key factor.

Why do BMW put the thumb rests in the position they do if that is not the best position? Just an observation.

Ha hilarious...

They teach pimp lean in the US drivers ed. class. Can't blame me, I'm merely a product of the culture lol.
