Help me choose my new car
Hello!
I'm selling my old 2010 F10 tomorrow and will replace it with another F10/F11 asap. My current car has been fantastic but it's an early production car with almost no equipment so I'm looking for something with a bit not fun bits now. It comes down to these two at the moment: 1. 525d x-drive 2014 (41000km) S1CA Selection of COP relevant vehicles S1CB CO2 package S230 Extra package, EU-specific S248 Steering wheel heater S258 Tire with run-flat functionality S2PA Wheel bolt retainer S2TB Sport automatic transmission S2V4 BMW LA wheel, M Double Spoke 613 S302 Alarm system S320 Deleted, model lettering P337 M Sports package S3AG Reversing camera S428 Warning triangle and first aid kit S430 Interior/outside mirror with auto dip S431 Interior mirror with automatic-dip Vehicle options S456 Comfort seat with memory S465 Through-loading system S488 Lumbar support, driver and passenger S494 Seat heating driver/passenger S4CE Fine woodgrain vers., Fineline anthrac. haha, what an original reply, never seen one of those.
OP, go for the better engine. I think the 6cyl is smoother and has less reliability issues vs 4cyl one. You buying used so best get a bit more secure car down the road. I know you will get a more frugal car in 520d but you will end up driving it harder and your gains in economy will be offset. THe options on the 525 for HUD alone are better. I think you need to have 3 things on a 5 series to make it a happy ownership: HeadUP, good stereo, wide navigation screen. I think you have that in the 6cyl but the other car..honestly, I get the appeal of scoring a bargain, but you might miss the options. I just purchased an F11 a month earlier and went through the same options (I skipped the harman kardon and few other goodies and went for bigger engine and 4wd instead). Mine is also 2014. I went with black msport with same rims you have.

I would go with the 525 XDrive, especially with all the snow that you guys get up there.

I think by too expensive, the OP is trying to stress the expense of taxes on the 550 engine size in Sweden, which is likely outrageous.

Taxes and fuel is indeed outrageous on the 550 not to mention the crappy second hand value.
I'm almost certain I will go for the 525, I think I will regret if I choose the cheaper car with less goodies. Here are some photos! 525 https://m.blocket.se/varmland/BMW_52...4.htm?ca=7&w=1 520 https://m.blocket.se/ostergotland/BM....htm?ca=14&w=1 Thank you for your help! |

Here in the States we don't have those 2 options you listed but good luck with 525! I'm guessing that a 535 here?

You gonna enjoy the 525D! Get some 18/19s rims for it for summer and you are set! You have a touring and a sedan. So not a deal breaker the body style? I find F11 more desirable to resell... But I needed an F11, may be you dont need it and if thats the case, just make sure the sedan has folding rear seats... ask me how i know its a good option on a sedan....

I've decided for the 525d now!
Tbh I like the F10 a lot more in terms of looks and I don't need the extra space. The only reason I was looking at the touring was because of the good deal they were offering and resale is a lot easier since 90% of the 5-series sold in Sweden are touring. Anyway, I have scheduled to pick up the car on saturday with a long drive home. Hopefully without any negative surprises! (It has folding rear seats, thanks for the heads up) |

After a long four hour drive to the dealer I was so excited to get my new car but after a quick peek around the car my excitement quickly changed to dissapointment..
I was promised that the car was in mint condition, the salesman said it was like new! But noo.. It had rust on left rear fender, scrapes and scratches on rear bumper and trunk. Deep ones that wouldn't go away with rubbing. Moving on to the inside, the leather had worn ungracefully and there were scratches literally everywhere. My 7-year old 523 was in a much better shape than this car. I felt like crap but I just couldn't accept such an expensive car in that condition.. I am moving on now and looking at this 520d instead. It doesn't have as much equipment but is only a year old and looks very smart.. I really like the looks and the multifunction instrument.
