Manual 6 speed transmission issue
Anyone running 6MT have noticed a problem when shifting from 1st to 2nd?
I'm in sport mode in my 535i I bring my rpm's up to 4000 and pop the clutch and boom my car takes off. Rpm's race up to 6000 I shift into second gear, hit the gas and nothing my rpm's didn't drop they stayed at 6500, no power, felt like a safety override kicked in. I let off the throttle and the rpm's dropped down I hit the throttle and she takes off. Other times when shifting from first to second I chirp the tires and she hauls ass. I've discussed this with my dealer and they tell me everything running to specifications. Of course this happened when I was running against a 2012 Audi A6 Last edited by Rbembas_M3; 12-15-2012 at 06:49 AM.. |

I have three modes comfort, normal and sport. I'm running it in sport mode when this happens.

if dsc is kicking in, he must be losing some amount of traction -- if he doesn't realize this, i dont think telling him to turn off traction control is going to be a good outcome.

Off the line yes I'm losing some traction, tires chirping that's why take it up to 4000 rpm's. now it may be that I'm so close that the rev limiter is kicking in? I'll try shifting sooner around 6000 rpm's and see what happens.

Yesterday with my brother in my car we took off in a straight line, I took first gear up to 6000 shifted into second and again some kind of safety kicks in until I let off the gas then I could punch it and hit third gear. My DSC was off and I was in sport mode. This only happens when I'm shifting into second, no problems shifting into third. Does BMW have some kind of built in safety in there manual transmission? When this condition happens it feels like the power is cut in half my rpm's are at 6000 and my speed is 40 mph. My car should be hooking up and pulling away hard. Like I said when I let off the throttle and then punch it my car takes off, but by the time that happens a few seconds are lost.

Yes, I think you are right from what I have just researched. In my 535i I don't have a sport plus setting, perhaps that is when DTC is disabled?

I don't think so. Just hold the dsc button until you get the SECOND warning saying that dtc is off. It takes about 5-10 seconds. Once this happens don't touch any other settings and give it a go.

I don't think there is any way of turning traction completely off. Sport plus enables DSC and turns off DTC and turning DTC off just turn DSC.

So with that said I'll have to change the way I run a 0-60 from a dead stop. I never have a problem dropping the clutch at 6000 rpm's it intermittently and only happens when shifty into second around 6000 rpm's. well looks like I'll have to save for a M5

I don't have sport plus either. The small display next to the tach will say DSC OFF when it's completely off.
This is the setting I've used at the track and you will get uninterrupted wheel spin, if you want it. |

Yes I have done the same, I mostly drive around in sport mode, but for some reason I'm having a problem when I'm shifting into second gear. Anyway I'm going to take my car in again because I'm getting some kind of a safety either DTC kicking in or a manual transmission/clutch problem?
