Oyster & Black
This is obviously a personal choice. Black is clearly more practical and looks just fine. I have black leather in my Mercedes E-Class and previously had it on a 535i. No complaints, unless the car happens to have been sitting in strong sunlight (hot!). But, it is a fairly predictable choice.
Oyster/Black will take more care to keep clean, obviously. It might be best to avoid orange or purple Gatorade in the car. You appear to live in Houston. My experience with Houston summers would be a good argument in favour of a lighter colour. The reason I like this colour combination, however, is that it looks interesting and classy. It makes the BMW look that much more distinctive. (There is little chance that you will find it in the typical Accord or Acura, if that matters to you). Oyster is not quite as light (near-white) as it appears in these images. The top one is fairly representative. At the end of the day, it's your choice: a) hides-the-dirt+hot-in-the-sun, or b) distinctive look+cooler-in-the-sun+regular-leather-care-recommended. |

I live in Houston, but as OCD as I am, it is not even a question... Most people who drive these park in a parking garage for work, and park in in their own garage at home. Add a good ceramic window film, and there really is no issue. On the other hand, the first time I see "blue jean stains" on the side bolster of the seat, well, let's just say it makes for a bad day...

Oyster-black looks very nice but I would personally not go for it. If you or anyone who rides in your car with light colored leather seats uses sunblock, beware--it stains. Also, if you wear dark-dyed leather, e.g., a dark brown or black leather jacket, also beware--the dye transfers to the leather seat. For these reasons and having had experience with these on ivory (not quite as light as oyster) leather seats in my Lexus GS, I opted for black leather in my 535.

I had seats similar to this in my Audi S5 and they were a PITA!!!!!! They looked great, but man I don't miss them. Jeans (even expensive ones) were the worst! They left blue marks nearly every time.
FYI...I have a black interior now. |

I have oyster/black on my car and I wear jeans everyday.
Yes - it does get stained a bit. However, I just wipe it once every 1-2 months with a wet paper towel and its back to normal. It's a VERY NICE combination and stands out from the rest of the luxury brands. I am very happy with it. |

That's the thing - it only hides the dirt. The dirt is still there. You should clean your car more often, all of you nasty people.
Only cheaply made leather is going to bleed on your seats, but as mentioned above if you just stay on top of it and keep the seating area clean, wipe up spills and marks fairly quickly, then you should be OK. I think the color is gorgeous.

I had black interior in my previous F10 (on my 2nd F10 now), and all black interior on my C55, and all black interior of my C43 before that, and all black interior of my C36 before that.
All black interior gives a more sporty look, and yes, it is allows one to be lazy about cleaning the interior. But I agree with LuvMyE92 here. Black only hides the dirt. It can still be dirty. Nothing beats regular cleaning. The Oyster/Black combo gives the car a more classy look. So I opted for the Oyster/Black this time around and don't regret that one bit!

If you wanted oyster (only) then you will find oyster black to be a more practical solution to oyster. The thing that matters is the headliner color.
Oyster black allows more light into the car and this lets you see the refinements better than all black. All black is total stealth especially with the shades. You can sit in the backseat of a black black vehicle with the shades up and no one will know you are in the back seat in broad daylight. The problem again is the headliner. Sometimes BMW gives you a grey headliner with a black black car. This gives more reflected light in the car than a black headliner, but I always felt it was a mismatch. Oyster black on the f1 has a matching headliner to the oyster for the most part. This looks to me a lot better than black black with a grey headliner. In sum, if you want black black make sure you get the black headliner if available. Otherwise, go oyster black and make sure you get the tan matching headliner. The non matching headliner (grey) with a black black interior is not a good fit for me. |

I agree, the stock headliner matches the Oyster quite well. I am glad I have it, as it lightens the interior considerably. |

As far as Napa versus Dakota leather, any thoughts as to how the Napa leather has fared against wear and tear? I love the look and feel, but worry that with kids in my future, there will be so many scratches that I'll wish I got Dakota. I'm closing in on a dark graphite exterior black interior (love the oyster/black, but again, I don't trust passengers )

I've had my oyster/black combo for 11 months now. I have 3 kids - 3, 12 & 15who generate a lot of mess although they don't all usually travel together in the F10. Nevertheless the upholstery is just fine. Most stains like chocolate or mud can be removed easily with a damp cloth. Driver's seat is also OK, no issues with jeans.

I have oyster black too. All my previous cars had black interiors. I was worried on the maintenance issue too but actually the F10 interior is quite easy to clean. Just wipe with damp microfiber clothes and good as new. I wear jeans all the time and stained the driver seat often. No problem to clean the stains.
Another thing is the oyster headliner visually makes the cabin roomier. With the black one it's more sporty but feels more cramped IMO.

I've got Venetian Beige and Light Ash Wood Trim. Very pleased with it, although the floors and boot are going to show up the dirt pretty quickly - would suggest you go for the boot liner if you go for this option.

Same here. Got Oyster now for 4 months and 12000 km. Not a single Problem with Jeans etc. I regularly apply the cleaning and protection products from www.lederzentrum.de and never had a problem (and I wear dark Jeans all the time), not in my Oyster F10, neither in my ex-E92 with Grey Dakota (which I drove for 95000 km - seats still looked new when I sold the car).

Personally, I love it. Mine looks fantastic, and it's surprisingly easy to keep clean - hardly have to touch it, just the occasional damp cloth and a wipe and it looks brand new. Love the brightness in the cabin, would never choose black seats over it.

no brainer..get oyster/black.....after my previous 2 Bimmer's ('04 545i and '09 X5) were all black, it is the gloomiest interior you can find in a car. The oyster/black in M sport gets all black anthracite headliner..looks real sharp.

Just cleaned the front seats and steering wheel last night using Leatherique Prestine Clean. The wheel was filthy. Both front seats had less dirt on them than the wheel.
Oyster Nappa on mine. |
