need help with software update.
Hi, On the BMW site I entered my vin# and downloaded the latest update using my Mac laptop. I then dragged the file into the USB drive.
When I stick the USB drive in the usb slot in my 535i. Idrive update does not see the file. I've tried using two different USB drive but no luck. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? thanks |

I vaguely recall a similar issue when updating my telecommunications software last year...
I believe I had to relocate the USB stick from the glovebox to the port in the center console (or vice versa) in order to get my car to recognize and install the update. Hope this helps. |

Another thing to check is the formatting on the USB drive. Please check around to verify, but I think that it has to be FAT32 with default cluster size.

I got it! I now remember where I read that the formatting has to be FAT32. I read some instructions for updating the navigation map version and in THAT article the USB formatting was addressed:
"to a Fat32 Formatted...."

Reformat the USB to FAT32 with Windows
I was having the same problem after I formatted the USB with my Mac, it worked fafter formatting it with a Windows PC. Also, make sure to use the glove compartment USB.

It can be done from the USB in the center console but the most important is that the file MUST NOT be in any folder just directly in the USB stick.
Good luck. |

You can use the Mac to format your USB drive in FAT32. You may want to double-check whether the software you are trying to install is intended for your specific car, and has not already been installed. In either case, I believe the iDrive won't load it.
