H&R swaybar installation and comparison.

One I've been meaning to get around to for awhile. The amount of body roll the car has had has always bothered me. Its a big car, and doesn't have DHP so it comes with the territory....

That said I ordered the bars from Tunershop.de for $421 shipped. They came from Germany to Houston TX in 4 days.... can't complain about that, and no domestic vendors can touch that pricing.

Everything arrive factory packed and in perfect shape.

Stock non-sport rear bar vs. H&R:

Rear bar installed:

Stock non-sport hollow swaybar vs. H&R solid bar:

and the front bar installed:

Install was super simple. Fit and finish on everything was quite nice.

I wish I had more of an opportunity to push the car on the way home from the shop but I was stuck behind a parade of slow people most of the way. Aggressive lane changes are much smoother, and wide sweeping turns are so much more level. I no longer have to lean into the corner as I turn to stay upright in my seat

More importantly, you have a lift at home?!

I've always done the front sway on ramps as I thought the front suspension needed to be under load in order for the end link to reach. Based on your install going fine maybe that rule only applies to the M5 OEM bar due to the odd angle it requires the end links to sit. Interesting.

No no, I wish I had a lift in my home garage. I have a wall-of-toolbox and everything else I want, but no lift or headroom for one. I drive in to work to do stuff like this and utilize the lifts. I'm a Service Advisor for a BMW Specialist here in Houston.

I suspect you may be right about the M5 swaybar being the problem, as with my car on the lift at full droop there was no preload what so ever on the end links and it was easy as could be to remove the stock bar and replace with the H&R one.

Thx. We had another thread on the same bars - the OP loved it, the other member, after a couple of months, regretted it as too stiff/rough. It's all about what you want. Good luck and enjoy.

What has been your longtime review on these?

Still very happy with the difference its made on the car. Its the next best thing to having a car optioned with DHP. Much less body roll than the factory bars, no downsides to note, and the car is much more composed when hurling through a corner on the new P4S rubber I put on 2 months ago.

Great write up and thanks because I'm next for this setup. Quick question, the new bars come with bushings? I noticed the rear bars (pic) don't have bushings and the front have.

You ordered from Tunershop.de. Is there a translation because the site is all in German?
- do you have xdrive?

The bars come with new polyurethane bushings, I probably just had not installed them yet.

Click English on the site.

No, RWD as god intended.

Great write up! I had mine done recently with the same setup. Although the car definitely feels more responsive when turn the wheels, the body-roll reduction did not improve as much as I was expecting.

The most painful part of the DIY installtion was breaking/torquing the four E18 bushing bolts. I can’t imagine how one can do it without hving the car lifted. The most tedious part was removing and remounting the numerous cover’s 8mm screws.

What did you use to slide the rear bracket onto the rear sway bar bushing, i know BMW recommends to use circo light coating to slide the metal bracket over the bushing, but i havent been able to get my hands on it, and it is back ordered.
