Replacing Cigarette Lighter Fuse On F10

Can anyone tell me what the fuse number is for the cigarette lighter/accessory charger? I can no longer power my radar detector and I cannot find which number it is on the chart provided in the fuse box. Thanks!

I had to take it in. While changing a fuse is quite easy, not on the F10 5-series. It took about an hour and they had to remove several panels to access the area. Several fuses were blown. It was under warranty, but it still cost me $45 (for some reason).

I had to take mine in for this - I checked all the fuses on the card relating to the cigarette lighters but they were all OK.

My dealer did it under warranty but suggested it is a chargeable repair.

The reason......... the sockets were not designed for plugging Sat Nav's and phone chargers in. That's odd I said, if they are only there for cigarette lighters, why are they even there when I ordered the 'non-smokers' option.

I can't believe that they can tell you this with a straight face.

This is exactly what I was told. Dumbest thing I've ever heard. However, I had blown fuses.

The fuse seems to be blown on mine too... I know how it happened... I'd call it a design flaw in the F10 - I had removed the lighter from the socket as I use it to plug in GPS or phone charges etc. I usually put the keys in the holder just beside the lighter socket.. as it's designed for !!! however one of my house keys on the key ring dropped into the open socket and shorted it!!..

I haven't try to get it fixed, assumed with was just a fuse but given the comments above it may be a little more given it was a short...

Bad design on the side of BMW, I'd assume most people are going to have a few keys hanging off the ring and to the point above most people use the sockets as a power source...

So are you guys telling me that after I take it into the dealership to get fixed, it will probably short out again when I plug my radar detector into the one closest to the dash? Having it plugged into the arm rest one has been fine. What sucks though is that it continues to draw electricity even after the car is shut off so I have to disconnect the detector every time.

My Dealer said the same thing!

My Dealer - Princeton BMW was doing some other warranty work on the car and I mentioned the lack of power in the arm rest and ashtray 12v ports.

He said oh it's prob a fuse. When I got the car back I had a bill for 1/2 hour of labor - $45, and $1.19 for parts (the fuse). Considering the $1700 of warranty work they just did I paid it and left without arguing, figured it was better to maintain a decent relationship with my SA than get into an argument with him over a $50 charge.

I don't remember the exact moment mine blew, but I had one of those dual USB chargers for my cell phone. Apparently the 3.1 Amps it can put out is too much for the F10 fuse.

Take care,

George

Cant remember off the top of my head..but its up front behind the glove, in that fuse box. On the right half of the fuse box, a smaller one I believe 7.5amp.
Its a bitch accessing them though, so trust me when I tell you dont bother starting until you get yourself set of needle nose pliers, an extended extra length stupidly long one.

Like this one, where its straight, not bent/angled-
http://www.toolstop.co.uk/components...duct/S0925.jpg

Start looking through them. Sorry cant be of more help but Ive blown fuses on this car so many times it's almost expected everytime I plug something in or change a bulb. I just remember that in the fuse diagram of the trunk fusebox, it shows several different fuses it could be, and I remember it ended up being one that wasnt so obvious. As in it was a fuse shared or tied in with another part of the car. Good luck lol.

Its number 54 yellow 20 amp, 2nd one down from the top behind the glove box.
I changed mine today, picked the car up last Friday bought a wireless phone charger only to find its blown. it's fiddly but doable. BMW blanks are £7! outrageous
