Week 38 Production Status??
I recently ordered (early last week) an F10 w/ M-Sport (ZMP), Dark Graphite, Black Nappa, ZPP, ZP2, ZAV, ZCV, ZCW, 2TB.
Just received my production week of week 38 Did anyone else receive the same week and if so, when do you think we can expect delivery in the New York area? |

Week 38 Production Status
Swim:
Be sure to let me know when you get the confirmation on the exact date of production. As you know, I'm also week 38. The 1-800 phone number still says no confirmed date for production yet. The wait is killing me.... |

Every time I call I get the..."your dealer will have more detailed information" I will call them agian today because as I believe you were, I am week 37 prodcution........which means that my car should be started still this week. Now for the VIN.......I thought they were'nt issued until well into the process of making the car? If so, I would think that your car will be done before the 20th. I really think BMW needs to give us all a link where they can stream real time of our car's going down the production line. Just called BMWNA and got the update that my Week 37 535 was started yesterday and is scheduled for completion on the 17th. Automated message last night and this moring still gave no information so although not as slow as the website updates, it still takes a while to get the latest. I also asked about the VIN and the rep stated that this will not be issued untill the car leaves the body shop portion of assembly. She also said that my dealer is the only one that can give me that information......which will be no big deal. That Combox better be worth it! Just kidding, I know it will be. But you know, we all know, with today's technology, that really would not be very difficult. Ah... if only Google Earth were real-time, then we could see the car sitting on the dock.

Let's look @ this closer... From the moment of production start, they could outfit the entire production line with streaming HD cameras that could show each customer where their car was in the production status...LIVE!! For each step, the customer could be presented with the LIVE HD streaming video and then with a description of the process that is currently taking place. Not only would this be useful for the customer's after they have already ordered their car, but the dealerships could have digital signage on their showroom floor that could be showing the HD streams which people could glance @ when shopping for new cars. Think about all of the time that we have sat in a dealership waiting either for our sales person or for our cars being serviced. Dealers could even have the ability when a customer comes in asking about the production status to just plug in a production number and up on a large screen would come the live stream or GPS location of the ship carrying said car. The are unlimited possibilities, but I could only imagine that BMW legal would have issues with all of this for a host of reasons (i.e. trade secrets, recording of employee injury on production floor, etc.). We can only hope and wish!! |

Hey Swim
First at all. I agree 100% with what you are saying. There are so many more pros+ to show bmw production in real time. But I dont think it is going to happen:S. Last month visted the Dingofing BMW production factory. At the start of our tour. BMW spokes person told us that it is 110% forbidden to take any pictures or make films during the tour through the BMW factory. so I ask then why? the only answer was, he cant say why and it is ordered form the management. my guess is, if they dont even allow any pictures or films taken during a tour. they sure are not going to show the production process via HD steaming. |

Looks like many of us might be on the same boat over. They even said that a VIN had already been assigned and they provided me with the VIN#... Nothing like BMW under promising with a Week 38 start and over delivering with a start today! |

Plus, as noted in other comments here, since BMW is so concerned about protecting their proprietary manufacturing processes, live feeds or photos is unlikely. Which is really not such a big deal, I mean, how many times in your life do you custom order a car, right? Actually, this is my fourth. If you want a manual transmission and you don't want navigation there is no other choice. FWIW, you can tour the Corvette plant in Kentucky and see them assemble cars, and I have heard via the Internet (so it must be true, right?) that if you order a car they will let you know when it is to be assembled and you can come watch it. You don't have to stay with the tour group, you can stay with your car, be the first person to start it, etc. Of course, the tour (yes I've done it) doesn't show you the paint shop or the engine assembly or any of the dangerous stuff like when they form the frame rails or stamp body parts but it's still pretty neat even if you don't wear gold chains or are having a midlife crisis.

ww40 slot started production!
I am glad that my order finally is in production. Ordered on 8/7/2010, and the production week given was ww34. It then got pushed to ww40, which I believe is the designator for the *end* of the production, not the beginning. Started on 9/24/2010, and is expected to finish on 10/5/2010. Let's see if it goes OK.
Looking forward to 550i Space Gray w/ Oyster/Black Dakota interior and ZAV, ZCV, ZCW, ZDA, ZDH, ZP2, ZSP, 2TB, 4NB, 5DF, 5DL, 610 and 6NF. I understand that it will take 4-6 weeks from the end of the production for the vehicle to reach the west coast?
