Can the car shut down with one press?

Clearly, I'm new at this 5 series thing. Another mildly frustrating feature is shutting the car down. I appears that I either have to press the START/STOP button twice OR press it once and then lock the car. Is there a way to only press the button ONCE and have the car completely shut down?

Thanks

Aren't you going to lock the car anyway? I know if I was in RI or CT I definitely would

It doesn't work. That is how previous models were set up, but the F10 and F25 require a much more complicated and awkward shut down.

That's how my 2009 M3 worked, but the 5er doesn't do that. A second push seems to be required. March 2011 build.

Well, I like it this way where u have to push it twice. The logic behind this is to keep the radio playing your favorite song whilst you exit.

More importantly, this feature conditions you to lock the vehicle.

Nevertheless, for emergency reasons the car should be designed to completely shutdown after a long depress.

My F11 only switches off by a second push or by locking it.

That comment could hardly be more absurd. And by the way, when you press the button a second time, just make sure your foot isn't on the brake or clutch. Otherwise, the @#$%^& engine will start up again.

Why do you think it's absurd to think that the radio should stay on while the occupants exit the vehicle?

This practice was started by the American cars. Although, all you had to do was open and close the door and the radio would shut off without any user intervention.

BMW requires an explicit action to turn off the radio. This, of course, is typical for BMW. Like the wipers won't just turn on when it rains as it requires an explicit action by the driver. And so on!

These seemingly absurd features make sense from a product standpoint.

I didn't mean it quite that way. I think it's odd that BMW requires extra action (a second press, or locking the car) to shut down the "radio ready" state. I don't care to have the radio serenade me out the door. I suspect I'm not alone in this, but I realize some people like it that way. Until this new approach was adopted by BMW, there was a choice. I always shut my car down with a long press. I don't see any good reason for eliminating that option. Now it's too easy to leave the car in an active state without intending to, or even to restart the engine inadvertently if your foot's still on the brake when you do the double press. It's not a good marketing strategy to design a car in such a way that it can easily make you feel stupid or inept.

The #2 reply was wrong of course. One long press will not work.
