How to get the "My BMW Remote" working in the US

So I downloaded the app to my Iphone-3. I try to login using in all caps my email and password. They seem to be valid as I don't get any sort of failed login message. But then pops up:

"No remote services active. Go to the connected drive portal to activate" etc etc

I've found no webpages associated with connected drive that allow me to login or activate anything. I also tried pushing my SOS button in the car and talked to BMW who were unhelpful/condescending and simple put in a trouble ticket.

Anyone else been through all this, or gotten it to work properly in the USA?

Works fine for me. Did you have a BMW assist account setup beforehand?
