I always put a steering wheel crook lock onto my car. Always have done.

True, a pro thief stealing to order would know how to get this off as well I am sure. But its one more hurdle to make them go and nick someone elses... And I am sure 520d estates are not stolen to order.....

I spoke with my dealer today and was informed that, regardless of build date, no 'F' models are affected.

The plot thickens, had a call this morning from a dealer to book my car in for a software security update.
Anyone else had the call?

No one else?
Seems odd. I rang BMW UK to check this was for F10s, they checked my Reg and confirmed the update is for cars produced before Sept 2011.

Just posted on other thread:

http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=744095

My 2010 F11 has been booked in by my dealer for the update next week. Said it *does* apply to F10/11's built before sept 2011. Not sure why some dealers are saying it doesn't affect F models. You would think this isn't a difficult thing to communicate clearly pretty poor by BMW and their dealer network, total confusion.

BMW Customer Services rang me and said my May 2011 was definitely not affected. Nobody knows WTF is going on.

ok so good news my car is fine. bad news i had a wasted trip. dealer lead tech took one look at the car and said (same as JonD's dealer) "its an F11....the fix is not needed on those of any age." bit of a disconnect between the adviser that booked car in and the actual tech team. so it seems F10/F11 cars do not need this fix applied. only good news is the F11 was pitted so got a free wash...wouldn't normally let them wash it but its so cold at the moment i figured what the heck.

Went to the dealership yesterday and had the upgrade installed.
As I was suspicious, I asked for the revision level of this upgrade, they said there wasn't one
Did they install something? not sure, only difference I noticed was my Nav settings had changed, but that might have been the tech messing with it.

Anyway, had my winters put on so not a wasted journey as I would have had to book it in for the swap over.

My dealer said that F series cars "categorically do not need this update" so I'd love to know what yours did / who's right.

As per my earlier post, above, that's exactly what my Aberdeen dealer told me.
