ceramic controls for a F10?

i love the ceramic controls on the new 6er, 7er and 5er GT. is there a way to have them special ordered for the 5-series? I do not see an option on bmwusa, but i was wondering if it could be special ordered? or if the parts can be ordered online and installed after delivery, maybe a DIY is posted?

thanks!

I feel pretty confident that at least the shifter appliqué could be fitted. Probably the knobs too, but I am not sure how they are removed and re-installed.

I completely agree with including this option for the 5, right along with the leather dash for 2012. C'mon BMW, Ray Charles could see that you can't offer these two options on the 6 and 7, but not the 5...

we can get it ordered for about $800, but doing a custom order also mean you miss out on approx. 8~10% discount on BMWJPN ordered cars dealers have sitting in the lot...

Sorry if out of topic, but at least the illuminated door sills (part of Ambient light package only on 550i and 535d in Europe) can be retrofitted on "lower" models, at least in Europe. Just did a retrofit on my 535i and it looks fantastic (though my wife hates it :P).

Matt,

You should be able to get it in the US but will need to talk to your dealer parts department. It looks as though the whole i-Drive module has to be replaced and as such, the console surround needs to come off. RealOEM shows the list price of our i-Drive module at roughly $500. I would guess the ceramic would be higher.

If you are a BMWCCA member, you might be able to get a discount through your parts department. My dealer has been doing this and the savings are pretty good.

A firm answer to this question still does not exist...yet...for the USofA. I'm not talking about going to the BMW parts dept and retro-fitting; I'm talking about ordering the car with the controls...

Second-and related, I'm still trying to get an answer as to whether I can get the leather dash, as with the aforementioned other BMW models. Perhaps this will happen in 2012, but nobody...nobody - can answer now... When I ask the question at the dealer, they just look at me "like a calf looking at a new gate..."

I have heard that it can be done, but you need to be a regional manager (of dealers) to do so.

There is supposedly one at VOB in MD.

Yes you can... c.£900 in the UK. But you must have that option in the USA.

They do look awful nice, and if I'm loading a 550 M Sport to about a ~$79K sticker, I ought to be able to get it if I want it... Give me that and the leather dash, and I'm resdy to buy. I want what I want.
