Auto Box Question

Hi. It's been a few years since I've had an auto box on my car, but is it still good practice to stick it into neutral when waiting at lights or a junction? I remember being advised to do this this to take the load off the gearbox, but not sure if it's relevant anymore.

Thanks in advance.

I've never bothered with doing that and had no problems with the gearboxes on the last 3 cars I've had. If it was necessary surely an auto box should do it automatically?

Don't bother with that. And if you really want to relax, press the "autohill' button so that the car will only go forward if you put your foot on the gas.

You do mean the AUTOHOLD button - yes, it helps to "hold" the car even on a gradient; great feature.

No need to do anything, with the latest 'boxes. The torque converter will disengage, as and when the electronics deem it necessary or beneficial.

The best thing you can do to your gearbox is to engange the parkingbrake before you put it in to park.
