No idea on this tune, but they are more of a mercedes tuner. The guy who runs it is the former head of AMG engineering or something....had the tune on my biturbo E550 Coupe....thing was a monster....upwards of 550hp

Yeah I know they mainly work on mb's, but I will give them a call this week to get more info on the tune.

Thing was crazy. 550HP in a 3600lbs car. Car was an animal. Never really realized just how light and nimble it was until I moved into my 6GC.

I e-mailed Renntech and gave them the business for not providing any hard facts for the claims they have posted. Here is the response I got:

Mr. Cook,

Sorry for the delay in reply as I have been out of the office. I have followed up with our BMW tuning department and while we do have a tune for the N63 it is only for the X5. Our tuning does not apply to the F10 and numbers listed for the X5 are not applicable to your application.

Sorry for any confusion and wish you a happy holiday weekend.

Feel free to contact me directly should you require anything further.

Regards,

Mark Hatfield

So, apparently they can flash tune the X series, but not the F series. Sounds like crap to me. I've searched high and low for anyone driving a N63 that has this tune and have found nothing. Personally, I wouldn't waste anymore time trying to get information from these guys, but that's just my two cents.

I am not doubting the fact that they told you they have a 550/F10 flash tune. What I am doubting is if it actually works as claimed, when they don't provide anything other than a webpage to show the gains.

I e-mailed Renntech on 6/28/14, and received that reply on 7/3/14.

I'm of the belief that they really don't know BMW's as well as they know MB's, and it isn't clear within the company what they do and don't offer for the F10. You say they have one for the F10, where their page shows an F07, and the email I received says X5.

So even if they offered the tune (and it worked), and they could produce numbers that show the improvements claimed, is it worth $2700? I think for some people it would be.

Here's the quote from their webpage, which answers most of my questions about their ability to tune BMW's:

Quote:
RENNtech has evolved and grown from humble beginnings into the foremost authority on luxury
automobile performance tuning and offers complete tuning solutions for Mercedes Benz, Porsche, VW,
Audi and Bentley vehicles

Not necessarily, Michael might be onto something, but those guys can't step into the BMW arena using their MB reputation alone.

That reputation holds no weight when it comes to tuning our cars, and since no one else can crack that nut, it makes me at least skeptical that Renntech pulled it off.

Now if they did, and they can post some graphs, I think the community would at least be interested, if not hesitant with the price. I remember APR flash tuning my '02 GTI for something like $400, but if you are the only company providing a service you can charge whatever you want.

That's kinda where Dinan shines! Are they the only one providing a non-piggyback from the N63 right now? Aside from this RENNtech, if it's even true.

I was going to joke about that being "Dinan's business model in a nutshell", but decided to hold back. Truth is, I simply can not afford to play in the Dinan arena. Who's to say if I had an extra $10,000 in my couch cushions which route I would go.

To my knowledge even Dinan had to admit piggybacks were the immediate way ahead with the newer BMW's, as the ECU's are too difficult at this stage to play with and show significant gains. I think Dinan caught a great deal of flack over blasting piggybacks, then a few short months later moving in that direction as well.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in, but flash tuning will become commonplace, but a company needs to break the barrier first. Could Renntech be that company? Possibly. They have the technological firepower, and even if they can only flash X5's, they aren't that far away from the F10 N63.

In the meantime, I'm going to put together a webpage claiming I can flashtune the N63 all the way to 580 RWHP / 630 RWTRQ, and I'm going to charge $60,000. Assuming someone bites, I'll figure it out then, but that will instantly give me the money to buy some Dinan parts and accessories.

Lol that's kind of what I've read as a consensus. I've heard about them from years ago so they have to be doing something people like to stay in business, but yeah. If I were going to get their "Dinan 550" or whatever the fully loaded package is, I'd go with an M5 instead. I've seen it be hit/miss with their claims on Stage 1/2 alone, which is about as far as I'd go as I'm not sure about upgrading the whole IC and all that.
However the car puts out plenty of HP as-is being so new, so a tune to bump the HP will probably be last on my list as it naturally fades a bit over time. Hopefully someone will have it solved by then.

so I have the BMS Stage 1 Tune for our N63... I wsa going to opt for Stage 2 which is still in Beta testing but they want $350 plus $50 core charge from Stage one.. they use the wiring harness from stage one and update it with additional wiring harness plus a new black box... really wanted to see Cobb tuning and Vishnu in the F10 N63 game... what are your thoughts on RaceChip?

Bms is definitely the best value, but I haven't seen racechip for the n63.

Are you stock save the Stage 1 tune? How much difference can you tell on average with just that upgrade?

I say stage one is for people who want to be a little faster than stock and once in awhile hit te tack and crank boost on race gas. Stage 2 is for daily that's very aggressive and almost a second faster in 1/4 on 93 octane.
