As Highland Pete pointed out, it doesn't seem to matter which model or options you have, the price is pretty constant. Given that a 550 has twice as many pistons, con-rods, turbos and cam-shafts as a 4-cyl model, that's quite a surprise. You would have thought that the chance of a big engine-failure were pretty much double. Maybe big-engine failures hardly happen anyway but, anecdotally, turbos seem to be hardly trouble-free.

The price is the same for everything except the M5.

If you've got a 520d manual with no nav, its a poor deal. If you've got a fully loaded 550i is a very good deal

Same here for my 535i with all the tech and options. Certainly feels better paying out for the warranty, when you are at the better value end of the scale.

Felt the same when I had my E39 540i, (a £50k car back in 1998). Having a new V8 engine under the extended warranty, at zero cost, sweetened the feeling even more.
