I am moving on from BMW ownership and returning to Range Rover.

My F11 was new 28.11.15 and is a high spec:-

530d Luxury with £9k of options:-

BMW Warranty until Nov. 2018
Mineral Grey. Oyster Interior
LED Fog Lights, Professional Navigation, Panoramic glass sunroof, Ash wood trim, Folding dimming mirrors, Reverse Camera, Park Assist, Surround cameras, Driver and Passenger Electric memory comfort seats, Head Up Display, Harmon Kardon sound system, Climate Comfort windscreen, Sun protection glass, extended luggage feature, Steering wheel heating, Multi-function instrument panel, Speed limit display, Sport automatic transmission.

What do you think I should ask for it?

Have a look on auto trader for similar cars. Depending on miles, mid to high 20s at a guess.

You can get an estimated worth of your car free on Autotrader. Just register with antitrade. input your reg no and mileage.

You can get a more accurate valuation of your car from parkers.co.uk by paying about £4.00. The paid version would allow you to enter the mileage and other extra options the car has and would give you the valuation for when selling it privately, part exchange etc.

It has done 11,500 miles and I came from a Range Rover and so configured it with all the options that I had become used to.

I had a 5 series Touring 15 years ago and thought I could live the the "smaller" car, but it is not really working for me.

Price-wise I think high 20's is probably right. Just have to accept that is what I will have to accept at the end of the day.

It will be a very good buy for someone as it is in excellent condition.

Have a look on autotrader for similar cars/spec to get an idea of the market

I have looked on Autotrader and there is a huge variance in prices, that was why I was asking the forum for guidance.

I would hope it was worth more than £25k !!

Looking at what dealers are asking for on Autotrader is the best way. Autotrader's free valuation service suggested mine was worth £41k which is nonsense. It's up for £29k at the moment and attracting zero calls.....

I took delivery, a week ago, of a Feb 2016 F11 530d Lux. 6k miles, less spec than yours.

Cost me £29k from a BMW dealer.

I'd imagine part-ex on your car would be £25k or so, as suggested, possibly a bit more if the RR dealer really wants to hit a target. An extra £1-2k for it sold privately.

Naive question. Do people buy cars at that price "privately"? I'd be worried about doing so as I'd want a warranty if shelling out that amount of coin....

OP, you are selling after taking the lion's share of the depreciation. Same with me. Motoring now is much cheaper as long as I (and you) keep the car a few more years as it will now enter a flatter curve for further depreciation. Shame you have to sell it now.

I normally sell my cars after 2 to 3 years and accept the penalty of depreciation.

The percentage hit that it looks like I am taking is what I would expect after that sort of time with previous cars I have owned.

Unfortunately we need the bigger boot of the SUV format and so are changing earlier than usual.

I think BMW are operating to a totally different model these days with large discounts and this carries through to used prices.
I think I will ask around £29k for a private sale otherwise I will take the £27k offered by one of the online buyers.

As far as warranty goes, I do not see the problem as the new car warranty will transfer to the new owner? They will get warranty until the end of Nov'18.

This is going to be a monumental ask to sell privately even at a fair value as you are limited to people who want to pay cash - of which there are very few - and who are happy to spend this sort of money privately - of which there are even fewer.

Sytners told me that when they buy a car to re-sell at this sort of range they look to have £4K in the car to cover dealing, depreciation whilst they sell it and profit.

This was with the group buyer for used cars.

It just takes one buyer.....

At this level spec helps to differentiate so you should be in a good position

JLR, the point about further depreciation is important.

I will try it for a couple of weeks then just sell. Probably losing £600+ a month in further depreciation, so better to take the lower offer sooner and not risk ending up in a couple of months selling to a private buyer for the same as I can get now from offloading it.

I've sold quite a few cars at 6-12 months old and at £25-40k. It does take a while, especially in the part of the world kinhwear and I are lucky enough to live in, but there are some private buyers out there. Fewer timewasters at this kind of level, at least.

I agree that the market for nearly new BMWs like ours is changing. Motorpoint are offering basic spec 2015 535d MSports with 10k miles for under £26k.....

I was looking to move my 535D on at the end of the new car warranty. However, the more I have investigated this, the further deprecation of the car in years 3-4 is minute compared to what it is in years 1,2 and 3 - and thus lowers the TCO amortized over four or five years. It is still a great car at 29k miles so I am keeping it and getting the BMW extended warranty for a couple of years. I may move it on after two years of extended warranty.

My Z4 runaround, where I do not care a jot about piling on the miles, keeps the mileage down nicely on the 535.

Sound a great car kinh, shame you have to sell it on.

kinhwear - just curious.. which of the online buyers is offering you £27k? PM if you want. I came from a full fat RR TDV8. Tempted to go to a L405 once the Approved Used prices drop a bit more.
