On my 535i GT I have the electric sunshade for the side windows in the rear however am wondering if there is a solution for the rear tailgate. Is there a sunshade that I can add for there? If so can I have a part number?

Also does BMW make a cargo net to seperate the rear trunk if I wanted to remove the parcel shelf and fill up the trunk?

Thanks. I already have the side windows screen built in to my car. Any idea how this is installed? Has anyone tried it or seen it?

I was also curious how this was installed. I assume it's not permanent, so maybe just something using suction cups, that stretches across the rear window?

I thought about it, but no. I did end up having some 3M high-tech film installed, and it dropped the interior temp by a HUGE amount without compromising the visibility or pissing off the law. Parts cost plus installation would probably be in the $600 range or so, maybe more.

I'm not concerned about temp however, I'm concerned about glare. Does the 3M help glare? I think only the sunshade with its hole-design would cut glare, right?

Only certified installers (i.e., those trained on it) can get it, so it depends on where you live, whether there's an easy place to view and get it installed. Check it out. Got mine done last June, and have been very happy with the results.

Hi,
My understanding from reading is that the rear sun screen "snaps" into place. i.e. is a fixed screen. Unfortunately it looks like you have to buy a kit of rear and 2 side screens. If your vehicle has electric sides then you will have 2 "snap-in" sides that will be redundant; in fact may not even fit the vehicle when equipped with electric sides.

Where I am (Florida, USA), new cars pretty much all have factory tinted glass. It never occurred to me a new car wouldn't. I don't see an option for factory tint. Is that just a small option on the dealer order guide perhaps?

Every BMW has tinted glass. Now, in some markets, they offer a higher performance version (insulated as well). FWIW, I had some 3M tint applied last year to mine, and it made a huge difference. They make a bunch of different lines, the one I chose was their most high-tech. Over 200 layers of material, the only one acknowledged for nearly complete UV blockage and the only one recognized by the American Cancer Society for skin cancer protection (they claim it's used on lots of ambulances and police cars). The nice thing I like about it is that it can do all of this without being dark (although it does come in the darker shades as well). I have the darkest that's legal everywhere and it could even have been put on the windshield, should I have chosen to do that. Doesn't block RF like some of the metallic coated ones.

The other thing I've found that really helps is the comfort seats - you get ventilation as well as heating. That really helps keep you from sweating at the seat surface, and offers lots of additional adjustments you don't get with the stock seats.

You can get power sunshades for the rear doors, but the rear window (hatch) sunshade is a (dealer only?) added option. With the tinting, it may not be as desirable.

The other thing that is neat, is that you can set a timer in the car to turn on the vent fan if you know about when you will be getting back to the car. This can purge a lot of the hot air out of the vehicle, making it much more pleasant when you first get into it.

I sat in a comfort seat and immediately realized the benefits of the upper seat adjustments for my frame that has not fared well in a career sitting behind a desk. All of a sudden, the seat was able to bend like I am and support my head and upper body so my tired old neck and shoulder muscles have less work to do. All that equates to comfort.

Thanks for the insight on tinting. Down here, we tint second row and back windows at one level and front row at another. The side screens are added as needed. The damage to the interior of the sun down here is not to be underestimated and the value of tinting is tangible and noticable. So I'll do some form of tinting in addition to factory.

Oh, and that venting on a timer is to die for down here.

That 3M tint (referenced earlier in this thread) does reduce glare. Depending on where you live, the darker tints are illegal. This one blocks pretty much all UV, and a significant amount of IR. The darker ones block more IR. I chose a tint that was legal in all states since I didn't want to get hassled, and it has been fine. The newer technology doesn't need to be dark to provide the benefits of 'lesser' products. It also comes with a lifetime warranty from 3M in the car.
