F10 Headlights

I'm looking for some clarification on the function/behaviour of the headlights on my car (2013 ActiveHybrid 5). I've spent some time in daylight and darkness, flashing my lights into a window to try to figure this out. Based on the diagram attached:

- 1&3 are corona lights and these are set as DRL so always on, regardless of light switch position
- 2 would be the main headlight which turns on automatically based on headlight switch position A, or alternatively on via the dipped headlight position on the switch
- 2 also gets brighter once I use the stalk from the steering wheel to either flash or alternatively switch on full beam.
- I have no clue what 4 is for. Nothing I have done so far seems to make these light up. Going through the manual (RTFM!) these appear to be cornering lights but having googled etc, I'm still clueless on what these are for though it appears to be something connected with lighting up the sides of the car when I'm turning etc.

Is any of this dependent on the package that I have (e.g. adaptive / headlight throw control etc?). Appreciate if someone can shed some light on this. (unintended pun!!).

"4" is the cornering light.

You need to have the switch set to "Auto".

When you back up, this is lit up
When you are making a turn, left or right, it will lit up

The inner light is part of the adaptive headlight feature; if the lights control is set to auto, and you turn a corner, the inner light adjacent to the corner turns on and expands the illuminated area on the side you are turning towards.

As you've discovered, if the car is stationery/in neutral, then turning the steering wheel doesn't make the light come on.

Actually they do turn on even when the car is stationary. might be some kind of country setting tho...

Thanks all. Looks like some more testing is required. I have to say I haven't noticed them working up to this point, but will first try turning the wheel when stationary and seeing if that activates them. Otherwise, I suppose I'll need to be a little more vigilant in the hours of darkness to see what I can spot. As my car is right hand drive, I would assume that when stationary, only turning the wheel to the left will work?

Yes, Set your light to auto and turn any direction you want and it should lit up. If you reverse your car, both will lit up. You can also use the turning signal to trigger those light.
