Thanks.

Hi.

With the new M sport bumper installed (permanently or during pre-fit) simply bolt up the M adapter encapsulation (51757905276) to the bumper and let it overlap your current encapsulation tray. Use a marker to identify the mounting bolt holes. Take off the M adapter encapsulation as well as your stock encapsulation tray. Since your stock tray is longer than the M, it will sit inside the lip of M sport bumper; you'll have to slide the tray towards the rear of the car to get it out.

Now remove the 4 C-Clips from the stock tray; I forgot that the M adapter encapsulation has 5 bolt up points, so you will need to buy 1 C-Clip (51717065773) and 1 bolt (07147129160). Drill out the hole and then mate up the C-Clip to see how/where you have to cut a small square so that you can slide in the C-Clip.

Now - you can cut down the extra foamboard or if you want, you can leave it as is and just let it sit inside the bumper. I did not cut it because it did not interfere with anything and you can't see when you look through the grill.

I happened to take pics while I was doing the install, I think the pictures will make more sense.

good luck - Jo

Did you do this conversion on a RWD? Do you know if it involves different parts for an xDrive?

Nice! Will be doing the rear conversion on a 2011 550i. Just trying to find a good deal on a rear bumper!

As evident in the before and after photos, the conversion is complete. I'm placing this post to be able to show the parts list it took to get from base-model to M-Sport front bumper in case anyone wants to shop for the parts themselves. I'm very happy with the change. Enjoy!

I had the paint and labor done at a high-end collision repair center so my car was there for a few days and I saw it only a couple of times throughout the evolution. They did not give me any spare small parts when the work was done, and also there were no extra charges for any items that I did not provide as customer-furnished equipment. That means that either there was no extra little stuff needed because it was all re-used, or it means that the shop just had its own left-over parts supply and used what they needed from their own extras locker, and didn't charge me.

I just want to say this is a great thread and helped me out a lot. I cheaped out and got a replica kit. (looks really good) but you still need some of the OEM pieces such as the foam behind the bumper and some under body pieces to complete the kit properly. Your part numbers and info were a huge help! Thanks again!

This is what makes it fun to be part of this community. Do you have any photos of the finished product?

Very Good Question! My write-up is pre-LCI. I do not know of any difference between pre- and post-LCI front bumpers.

To me the only difference between mine and LCI looks like the grills have more space between the slats. Anyone else have any idea?

So the side skirts are definitely the same between the MSport and non-MSport cars?

Hi, Absolutely love what youve done and the information provided very helpful.

I have a problem and desparately hope that you still use this site or anyone else from this forum who has done a similar conversion.

Heres my situation.
Ive got 2012 520d SE in grey, Love the car but hate the ugly beaten up SE bumper. Anyway I purchased an OEM bumper Msport, this was taken out a 2012 520d msport. bumper was in mint condition. in terms of parts the only bit I bought was the MSport impact foam spunge.

My Problem

The issue I have is that the bumper just does not sit properly, I struggled to align it, it looks as though it is sitting forward rather than how it should be sitting. There is also a gap in betwee both headlights either side. I just cant figure what I am doing wrong. I really hate looking at it.

Ive looked at the parts list and can see that none of them will affect the line up of the bumper except the impact spunge as the msport version is much smaller. But despite the bumper is just not sitting and its driving me mad. almost feels as if the bumper is too small and is being streched.

I will attach some pictures to help.

Questions
1. what am I doing wrong.
2. do i need to change the mounting area where the bumper sits on.
3. I just need an answer

i really would appreciate some help to this. I m in th UK btw.
thanks

I replied to your PM. There is a metal part that you may need to put into your upgrade:
MOUNT, BUMPER, FRONT, LOWER (51118037631)
