My 520d mile muncher
After a few years of cars that use astronomical amounts of fuel a change of job and a commute that will result in somewhere near 40k a year has meant the need for a new sensible car.
I didn't want to spend an awful lot on anything as I know after a couple of years I'll have taken nearly all the value out of it. I knew I wanted a F10 diesel, and decided to go for my first auto with the amount of miles I would be driving and thought it would suit the lazy engine better. I also knew I wanted a professional navigation and xenons which meant finding a car towards the lower end of the market wasn't the easiest of tasks. With all of that in mind I picked up a 2010 520d with 95k on it about 6 months ago. It's surprisingly good and has so far been the perfect companion for what I need. I've never really had a standard car but generally always go down the OEM+ route. So far all I've down is swap the standard 17's for a set of 18's and tuned it to 260hp. It pulls much harder to the red line and I'm really surprised the power doesn't drop off at 4k like the standard car. I always thought it was down the the turbo being quite small. Without further ado here are a couple of pictures. I've given the car a quick service today which after having cars with inaccessible oil filters was very easy. I'm intending on keeping it a long time and will be making a tweaks here and there to improve it where I feel it needs it. I've got an Alpina splitter and rear spoiler to fit soon as well a brake upgrade which I've got a few questions on but other than improving the suspension slightly I'm hoping that the car just keeps on munching the miles. |

Thanks guys.
The remap was done by these guys http://www.quantumtuning.co.uk/ I've got an Alpina front lip and rear spoiler awaiting paint, I'd love to find a matching rear but tracking one one down is proving difficult. I might settle for the hamman rear if I can get one for the right price. |
