I drove it and the RS5 before committing to the M5. I came away disappointed with both for a number of reasons. Even the lure of employee pricing through my workplace didn't convince me.

I wanted to like it. I just couldn't. But I will say that I do like Audi's MMI in the S6. Plus the engine sounds in both cars was phenomenal in my opinion. But overall there's just something about BMW's interior that resonates with me more. I think our seating is more comfortable and I'm a big fan of the cockpit ergonomics and colors. I found the Audi a bit too jarring at night.

Why not trade in your 535i for the S6, you may lose a bit of money, but as long as you are happy with the car, thats all that matters. If I have the money, I would buy the S6, but $80K for a car is a bit too much for me and no discount as well.

S6 maybe better if...
Maybe the S6 is a better choice if you're looking near $80K and need a 4X drive performance car already tuned (engine, exhaust, tires, and suspension) from the factory.
The closest BMW match would be a 550xi with Dynamic Handling Package (ARS + DDC) and M Sport package. You'll save about $5000 but, to really match the S6, you'll want to at least upgrade the 550i exhaust, ditch the RFTs, and lower the suspension on the BMW. Perhaps even the Dinan Stage 3 route which then puts you way ahead performance wise but will eat up the savings you might have realized with the BMW and put you closer to $80K. |

Not me! I don't like the look of the headlights and the grill. It looks like a Chrsysler. The tail lights are not high style either. The 5 series, in my opinion, exudes true class and artistry. The Audi models all try too hard and come up short stylistically.

I almost got a Prestige A6 3.0TT before I found my beast. I wasn't getting the deal I wanted from BMW so almost went Audi but I was never FULLY thrilled with the car.
1. I felt like I would have to do a lot more to get the Audi modded to my visual taste. Tons of chrome deletes ect. 2. The tech in the Audi is nice but if you want to really utilize it get ready to spend 30 a month extra to have it all functioning. Plus that moving display is just a problem waiting to happen. read to many issues on them not raising or lowering. 3. I just don't feel like the brand Audi carries the same weight as BMW does. A BMW is a legend in its own and an Audi is just a car that has been on the up swing but was making some pretty unreliable cars for a while. Right before I pulled the trigger on the Audi I called the BMW dealer again and was able to get a sick deal on 12' since they were starting to pull in 13's. It was the ride I wanted from the beginning.

You guys are not wrong when you say the 5 is a better looking car. Dont get me wrong both cars are pretty but the 5 IS better looking. I think that fact of the matter is I want more power, I guess I need to start looking for 550's....

Audi's are not my speciality but a colleague just picked up a brand new S5 2 weeks ago and he was kind enough to take me through his new pride and joy.
On the outside it looked a pretty nice shape but it was the same red as in earlier pictures in the thread. The colour for me was a little too ostentatious but each to their own. Inside to be honest I felt a little cramped, it didn't strike me as a large space. It felt quite plush but a couple of things I didn't like were the sheer size of massive auto gea stick and the small and uninspiring new computer interface (whose icons were all small and fiddly). I liked some of odd little details such as the ability to insert 2 SD cards of music into the dash to play music. Overall the car was very nice but I, personally, look for a luxury feeling and I get that from materials, space, colour, and technology. I didn't get that feeling in the S5. As for performance I have dedicated sports cars for when that becomes important to me and in the meantime I look for good handling and responsive handling. I have no doubt that his S5 could provide these in spades. He had 20inch wheels which looked good but he said his ride was very hard, too hard for his wife. I am just giving my observations (many may say I know nothing) nothing scientific in any way. Nice car but in my opinion not one that would make me lustful or feel special each time I got in, All the best, Sam |

What drove me to the F10 aside from its look is the interior space and luxury.
The A6/S6 have poor color choice, cramped space like A4, and it doesn't look all that luxurious to be honest.

I agree, the A6/S6 and the 5 series kind of swapped places in their new designs. The A6/S6 is are the performer and the 5 series is the more luxury cruiser.

2014 550xi with the power bump will be a better match for the S6 and will have the advantage in HP/torque. Hopefully steering issue will be addressed. May need to go AWD for my next car and would like to stay with BMW.

I've not driven the RS6, but I've driven an RS4 and an S5 on a racetrack. And that was the worst experience on a racetrack I've ever had. The RS4 cornered so bad that it made me turn my back on Audi permanently.
Same day on the same track I also drove an E63 Merc, a Lexus IS-F and a Caddy CTS-V, all of which were more pleasant to drive, corner and pretty much everything else, compared to the two Audis. The only real rival to my bimmer in terms of how I felt in the cockpit was the Merc though
