Is there any difference in the engine between the 30 and the 35 ? or is the 35 a twin turbo???

Yes two different engines, both 3-litre capacity.

530i has the N53 in the UK, it has direct injection, double vanos but no valvetronic.

535i comes with the N55 engine, direct injection, double vanos, valvetronic and a twinscroll turbo.

The N55 has a good spread of power and torque, makes for a very good delivery. I love mine, even coming from a 330 diesel, where torque is always on tap.

+1.

Im a big fan of the new forced induction petrol engines.

I have driven the XF 3.0 SC. It may "only" have 450NM compared to the diesels 600NM but it felt far quicker in the real world which is probably down to the torque being spread over the rev range unlike a diesel which has a short power band.

The 530d has a single variable geometry turbo and the 535d has the 2-stage setup with sequential turbos.

Is this something new since December? I no nothing of any changes than ongoing specifications, which still show the 535d N57Z engine is the 2-stage setup with sequential turbos, as it has always been on the 35d engines.

Looking at RealOEM..... For the F10 11/2012 535d.

Is is still basically the same setup as earlier versions of the 35d engines.

Twin scroll turbos are used in the petrol engines, like my 535i, not the diesels.

Spot on, 535d is twin turbo.

Twin scroll turbo is only on petrol engines.

Isn't the new 525d a twin scroll unit on the 2.0 engine?

No, the N47S1 engine is virtually an identical setup as the 535d, 2-stage sequential turbos.
