RaceChip USA Group buy discount - F10

Hi All,
I've been in communications with Paul from RaceChip USA and I asked him if they are willing to get a discount on a group buy for their Pro2 or Ultimate and he came back today with a YES if we can get at least 10 buyers... here are the details from his email...

Please reply back to this thread if you're interested and then we can decide which way to go. Also see MBA's feedback since he already installed the Pro2 module.

10x Pro2 for a total of $5999 (per unit price of $599 instead of $679). 13% discount
or
10x Ultimate for a total of $6290 (per unit price of $629 instead of $769). 22% discount

We really would like to see you guys running the Ultimate as the processor is faster and it has the USB port for upgrades. The Ultimate also recently won a tuner magazine review. So we priced the Ultimate in such a way to hopefully make this an easy decision for you.

Count me in for either of them. I'm leaning more on the Pro2 because paying additional $30 for couple of gains here and there doesn't seem reasonable. But since the Ultimate does have a faster processor, the tune may run more efficient? like I said, count me in for either tune. By the way, do you have the link for the tuner magazine award?

Thanks.

what the ultimate offers is not just the 2 hp, it has a usb plug in for any future software updates vs. the pro2 which you'll have to send back and forth for any future software changes. I'll ask Paul for the link on the award write up.
thx,
Tony

How about someone provide some credible data before people start shelling out $600? The guy in the other thread said the mfg couldn't even tell him what the different settings do. Maybe it's just me, but it would be nice to have a clue what we're buying, wouldn't it?

I did ask Paul about the setting and he said the one you get from them (USA distributors) will give you a detailed explanation of each setting. There are various software versions out there and the settings are more for which software you have (US based cars vs. EU, vs. South America...).

I'm with you on more data but unfortunately as we have seen with the other tunes, we are limited on who's willing to go the extra mile and do all these tests.

What I personally care about is that I'm getting a product that will give me noticeable performance gains...

I completely agree with this. There's no way I would consider purchasing until I saw verified dyno data. To date, I haven't seen that.

We already have a proven solution from BMS, I would want to see what this offers above and beyond for the price difference.

There's not enough info here...
  • Does the price include shipping?
  • Does this group buy include all engines like the 550's N63?
  • Any feedback or reviews from any F10 owners (or at least from other N55 and N63 BMW owners)?
  • Can the Ultimate version fit within the ECU housing case or would it need to be fastened external to it? It seems considerably larger than the Pro2.
  • How good are they with software and firmware update frequency?
  • Is there a way to switch between programs on the fly without having to interface a laptop directly to the module?

1. Yes, no tax either
2. Any f10 engines (from the 4cyl to the 8)
3. No feedback yet from the N63
4. I think they have it fastened close to where the sensors they tap into
5. Can't answer that yet, too early
6. Yes, it has an adjustable control to allow you to set the setting

I know it's a bit early so we will not have all our questions answered.

Count me in. I hope these guys have extensive R&D with this tune. Have they made tunes for BMW in the past?

I think it is weird this company comes up with a chip that supposedly out performs BMS's stage 1 tune and they don't seem to be well known. Terry has so much experience, I would expect this from him. I won't consider the JB4 for the silly tapping necessary for install.

I emailed RaceChip today and had a response in 10 minutes. We emailed back and forth. Amazing customer service so far. Definitely faster and kinder responses vs BMS - thus far.

Response:

We are engineering our product in Germany and the N55 engines are not in particular difficult for us. Yes we are programming every module with an engine specific software and setting.

For this reason we don't offer a module for every engine until we have certified it. For example, the new GM ecotec engines are not released yet or the Mercedes 4.4 biturbos. We do testing and engineering before we start listing the product on our website.

We should have a chart on file that I can share with you. I will get back to about that tomorrow.

We opened a sales and support office in the US which is why we now can offer our product here. We recently won a euro tuner magazine review so you will see RaceChip more and more in the US. Having engineering in Germany where those engines are made is helpful of course.

I'd be giving stellar customer service and lightning fast responses too if I knew i was on the cusp of a potential big group buy. Isn't there another thread, on this same chip, where a member bought the chip and offered to provide the dyno results?

I'd trust a members own dyno results on the chip before I would accept the numbers from an unknown foreign company any day.

With my first email he had no idea I was involved with the group buy.

With all this advice you should step up to the plate and get that member dyno.

From these post in that thread, it sounds like this is a version of the old JB+, it simply tags into the TMAP sensor only and had a dial that where you can adjust the added boost from the box itself instead of having to do it through a USB.
Does anyone have a pick of the cable used to connect the tune box to the F10 535i? Sounds great, but I am a bit skeptical about it overshadowing BMS current tune.

I think you made a good point. Burger tuning is about $200 less. I would be slightly disappointed if it is the same core settings based on boast only. I hope this is not the case. Also RaceChip is relatively new with not much reviews. Would really like to see some actual dyno results from customers and not the dealer. However it does look promising and product looks quite nice.
