DIY foglight - Msport

Anyone know how to change the foglight bulb on the 2011 535i Msport? I think the regular package bulbs are H8, but the Msport package bulbs are H11. As far as removing that black mesh thing, do I just pull it out really hard?

For the Msport, you have to remove the bulb from the wheel well (not the front mesh guard). There are couple of screws in the lower part of the splash pad and unscrew them and get access to the H11 bulb. For ease, I would take the front wheels off to make it much easier.

I was able to remove the lower mesh fom the front and change them like that. Not necessary to remove the fender liner. You just need to get the right tool for the job. Working in a body shop I have tool in a hook on shape. Looks like an ice pick bent in an "L" shape. Put it along the inside top lip of the back of the mesh and pulled it out. Was a three min job for lt and rt. Lemme know if you want a pic of the tool I used

Do you just pull it out, in other words, there aren't any screws or anything on that mesh right?

Certainly, this is a more unusal & perhaps difficult way.

Be careful of not pulling too hard on that plastic mesh gurad clip; otherwise, $$.

yes sir. make sure you get a pretty wide reach on the mesh and pull it straight out. make sure you dont pull in one little spot, rather a wider grasp. you could try a coat hanger, but its clipped in there pretty good. good luck and lemme know if you have any questions

Thanks all. So they are H11' s correct. I think the non M-Sport are H8's. What do you think of these

As long as they are the right wattage 55W and any aftermarket bulb would do but do not bet on them being long lasting.

Correction on my suggestion ... I just changed mine today and can confirm the only way to change the fog light bulb is to pull out the front mesh grill and NOT from the splash guard in the wheel well as my earlier suggestion, thinking it would be the same as an E60 setup.

Sorry.

was looking for white light around 5500K that will match the xenon - did not find anything I like, thus settled for yellow. There is LED fog lights out there, (really bright ones - Made in Germany) but very expensive at $500 pair, when it's on sale, it's $300 pair (still pricey).

Best suited for H11 (Msport) as it's a simple take the factory part out completely and re-connect to this LED one .... as I had previously emailed to the vendor for technical question of installation.

Price came down a bit ... now $399 + shipping.

It went on sale from time to time, last I saw was $299 a couple of months ago.

H11 and H8 are almost identical. H8 bulbs are 35watts and the H11 are 55 watts. When upgrading to HID's the bulb H8/H11 is the same Hope this helps

If I get the TMTuning LED fog unit, does that go inside the BMW housing that you posted (i.e. inside this structure):

Or does it replace that unit?

I am concerned about a gap between the new lense and the mesh grille that surrounds it. The BMW setup fits perfectly.

^ Yes. Straight swap. Not cutting of grill or anything. That's based on the email communication I had with TM tuning. It's Plug & Play. If you are very handy, then it can be a DIY.

You can always double check again by sending another email to them.

btw, I thought you are going to wait for a price drop, like me, to around $250. Last month sale only dropped $50 to $349. This thing which first came out $599.
