BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo Wins Ward's Interior Award

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – April 12, 2010… The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo has won the 2010 Ward’s Auto Interior of the Year award for Design Versatility. This unique automobile was designed to expand on the original gran turismo concept, which was a luxurious and sporty car for two with room for luggage. The 5 Series Gran Turismo offers luxury seating for four (or five) with plenty of room for luggage. For those times when larger items will be along for the ride, it offers maximum flexibility including a two-piece tailgate.

“We’re very pleased to receive this award,” said Jim O’Donnell, President and CEO of BMW of North America. “With the 5 Series Gran Turismo, our engineers and designers set out to create a vehicle that combined first-class seating for four with the utmost in flexibility for storage options. This award for Design Versatility shows just how well they hit that target.”

The 2010 BMW 550i Gran Turismo, with its twin-turbo V8, arrived in US showrooms in December. The 2010 535i Gran Turismo arrives this month featuring BMW’s all-new tubocharged inline six. Both models use BMW’s newest 8-speed automatic transmission and, like all BMWs include BMW Ultimate Service with free scheduled maintenance for the first four-years or 50,000 miles.

I may be one of the few, but I really love this car. If I did not have an X5 35d I would seriously consider purchasing this as the family wagon. It is huge in person, really a 7 series wagon with ultra comfort.

Many people have complained of BMW interiors, and give usually Audi as an example of a modern interior design. I myself like BMW interior design for its good taste, simplicity, and focus on the driving.

I ordered 535i GT in Feb from BMW HK but expected delivery is in June. How come you can get a fastlane? Did you add any options? I had added the navigation professional, electric sun blind, and hi fi system professional. May be these make the delivery longer?

I just took one of their pre-ordered march production units. so, i cant add any additional options. each month, bmwhk brings in a set number of cars but they already chose the colours/trims.

If I wanted to add options, bmwhk will put in the order for me for the May production, delivery in July.

Good to see a few from hk ordering the gt!

I agree its basically a hatchback 7 Series. If i were to option a 7 Series (750i) the way mine is optioned it would have cost well over 100k USD.

The value of the car is apparent in comparison to the 7. My question is why they didnt just call it a 7? The overall look is more 7 with the exception of the front facia which is a cross between the F01 and the F10, but the rest of the body is more 7 Series. The wheelbase and overall length bascially mirror the 750i. One cant even make the argument that its a discontented version of the 7 either, as the rear interior design/amenities (standard seating and/or luxury package) when fully optioned is nicer. This is a fact.

I am pleased.
