E90 M3 to 550 M Sport?

Has anybody made this transition? I've had my car for 3 years and getting the bug. I'm looking for something with more space, as I'm 6'3 and with dress shoes, the 3 is a little tight. Plus the kids are getting a bit older so more backseat space is a plus.

I've driven the 550i, its quiet and comfortable with a hint of sport. I'm very concerned I'd get bored of this car quickly. I would need to order a manual, I think, does the auto rev match on downshift?

What can you do to spice up the 550i? The sound of my M3 with the eisenmann sport will raise the hairs on your neck and give you goose bumps I'm afraid of going to a turbo engine will be too bland...

I cant really justify $100k M5 with a turbo motor. My thought is get a 550i w/ Dinan exhaust and intake, better value.

I´m fortunate to have both cars - they are so totally different!
But with some ECU tuning and a sport exhaust the 550 is a fantastic car.

I´m actually thinking of selling the M3 ( have a motorcycle that can give me the nice sorty driving experience ). The 550 has better comfort, better Nav system, more gadgets to play with / help you when driving. M3 is more nimble and has better steering.

And you can never compare the sound, as You say!

I sold the E90 M3 Saloon 2010 for the 550i M Sport, did not miss the M3 for one day.
I now have on order the X3 35D M Sport all extras, 313BHP and 630NM, it should be very quick for a SAV.

Get a 550i and put an exhaust on it - the car literally transforms with the Sport settings. M3 is nice but the luxury is not really there. 6MT all the way!

I came from a E90 335i to my new 535i. I'd say it was a good decision and I was in the same boat as you. "SPACE" was the major issue and my kids getting bigger wasn't making it any better. The space in the 5XX F10 will even make a grown man moan! A chipped 550i can run in the mid to high 12's so if speed is what your looking for the potential is there.

There's a pretty lively thread (which I created) on BimmerFest on this very topic. I have had an E90 M3 for almost three years (lease ends in a week), and I made the transition to a 550i. I'm very happy with it.

I did the switch too, 08 E90 M3, to 550xdrive.
no regrets. the 550 is fast for daily driving, and sport mode work good for the street.

I made a custom exhaust, and it sound good.

I switched as well. The 550 is no slouch and fits the vast majority of my driving much better, with more luxury. I put on light wheels and PSS's to bring the handling closer to the M3. I would do a tune if I wasn't leasing or the local dealer did Dinan...

minus the potential benefits of being a small coupe, in every way the 550 > M3.
