Lane change warning / Active cruise control failure in heavy rain

I just did 230 km Dusseldorf -> Brussels in heavy rain and experienced a failure of both lane change warning change and active cruise control. Failure is a bit far-fetched as the manual clearly states the systems can fail in conditions such as, duh, rain, but anyway:

1. Lane change warning - the light indicator on the right side view mirror turned on permanently (indicating there was a vehicle next to me) - I'll let the car dry and hopefully that would fix itself by tomorrow.

2. Active cruise control - 200 km into the rain active cruise control came up with a warning saying that the sensor is dirty and needs to be cleaned and... shut itself down.

On the plus side going at 200 km/h in heavy rain with limited visibility and trucks pouring buckets of water over the car every so often I must say driving an F10 remains a sheer driving pleasure - silence, comfort and reliability (well, apart from the gadgets going haywire ;-).

My ACC has also shut down a couple of times - heavy rain and prolonged driving in snow / wet snow.

The system on the E60 newer failed in 120.000km!
Also drove 85.000km with my E91 with ACC - no failure!

On the E60/E91 there were never any buildup of snow, but on the F10 it quickly gatheres a lot of slush on the sensor......

Looking at where that sensor is located - no wonder. I wonder however why they didn't place it in the engine grill instead though.

I experienced a shutdown of ACC because of dirty sensors in bad weather several times as well. But that was in winter conditions with snow and grit.

But to be honest, 230 kmh in heavy rain is madness. Have you ever heard of the left hand corner - left lane aquaplaning phenomenon on the AutoBahn?

Yes, aquaplaning is a b****. I was doing 120 for the most part but did quite a few experiments on long stretches up to 200 km/h. I am happy to report I experienced NO instabilities up to 200 (in my previous car the front would start acting 'funny' when close to aquaplaning). I'm super happy about the 18" Continentals so far, especially when reading all these US Goodyear horror stories.

That said, does anyone know how to remove the plastic bumper grill to give the ACC sensor a good rub? ;-)

Just thought I'd bump this thread to see if anyone has advice on cleaning the sensor for ACC. I've cleaned the exterior bit of the sensor and that does cause it to work for 20 mins or so and then it'll shut down again, I think there's more dirt behind the plastic cover. . .
