You may say that BMW has lost focus and are losing it but when it comes down to it they know how to operate a business and know when to cut their losses. Do not expect any F11's maybe the next generation but it all depends.
I remember a time when BMW used to lead, not follow
So now BMW is stopping the touring, because Audi and Volvo pulled out.
The CLS was successful so now we're going to have grand coupes of the 3 and 6 series to follow suit
Audi split the A4 range into A4 for 4 door, and the higher priced A5 for the coupe
And now BMW does the same thing with the 3/4 series
Audi did the turbo charging of the 2.0 and now BMW does the same thing with the 2.0
The 1M came to market shortly after we heard of the RS3
So they may know how to run a business, but surely it's better to lead than to follow?

I bought a cpo e61 touring since they didn't offer the new body style in the touring. I absolutely love it! Perfect size, awd, quick motor from the 335, and gets great mileage as well as hold almost as much as my old fj cruiser

What we need is a CSL version of a wagon (5 or 3). Then we can truly separate the drivers in the customer base from those that start with Comfort Access and then build a car around the option.

Of course, I'd settle for a ~2.5l diesel option in any touring, with a subsequent appointment in Morgan Hill to dial things in....

I think he was trying to say there is no business case for the F11 and that the wagon industry is dead all together which is why he used the other companies to show that its not only BMW that feels that way.

I dont think he meant that BMW wouldnt bring the F11 because audi and Volvo dont do it either.

Reading is fundamental

Lets face it... There is NO MARKET for a wagon. This is the reason why crossover vehicles have become so big. Wagons are downright hideous.

I've NEVER seen an E61 wagon in my life. NEVER EVER EVER EVER... I've seen a few 5GTs running around. Call them hideous but an E61 or F11 should be a crime to even be produced.

We all have our opinions, but I feel the 5GT lost buyers in the US on it's outlandishly chic design and it's near 7er price tag. BMW had been selling the E61 for a price that was far too high, leaving it in the upper echelons of the soccer-mom market. The 5GT maintained it's high-end price bracket without the versatility of the wagon. I had an E61 and I will say $72,000 for a station wagon that isn't an M or an AMG or an S is a bit too much. It lost it's way on the price tag. The 5GT needed to be presented as a downmarket 7er than an upmarket 5er. But now with the looks and impressive equipment of the F11, I feel that it will steal many X5/6, Cayenne, and Range Rover buyers.

It's weird how different the US and Euro market is.

Here half the cars are wagons.

Yeah, also weird how the less narrow minded markets get offered more models, more body styles and more engine options.. weird huh.

I would've believed you if your profile said "Arizona or North Dakota". Queens - and no E61s? You're just not paying attention.

I love wagons. With three kids I only need the SUV for the occasional trip with everyone in the same car (this is why I'm selling my E90 for an X5). If I could get everyone in a wagon I'd do it in a heartbeat.

There's an interesting interview/chat session over at Fourtitude with Johan de Nyschan (president of Audi NA I believe) where he says that Audi can't make a good business case for the A6 wagon here in the US. Interesting that BMW is considering bringing it back. All the while MB continues to sell E-Class wagon.

As far as cargo space, our old Passat wagon had more cargo space than most mid-sized crossovers, simply more space efficient.

+1 on bringing more diesels over!

Ill take the 5 Series wagon any day of the week.

In fact, if and when the F11 comes out, I plan on making a deposit for a 535d

Dont forget Caddy is doing well with the CTV-V Wagon as well. Honestly at this point I would consider it over the MB since those are the only two real choices these days.

Glad you feel that way. Others do not.

I still see at least 1 E61 every week. And not the same one. And I think I've only seen 6 GT's since they've been sold.

The wagon carries a big stereotype. I for one do not subscribe. When I owned my wagon, I got a lot of teasing - until I blew people's doors off with AWD, 300 HP and 4 piston brembo brakes - all from the factory mind you.

I showed this article to my wife last night and told her to expect a switch if this car ever comes here. She was not happy but understood.

My old ride:

Actually, I had an e61 here in Arizona for a few years.

If the F11 comes, I'd make it the next family car for sure.

(But then, I have a wagon fetish having had an E34 touring, an E39 touring, an E46 touring, and the E61).

As a wagon lover, I would love to see the 5er GT be cut from production and the f11 to appear stateside, but I doubt it will happen...

Hopefully, however, BMW will just go ahead and cut the f30 3er GT from production plans and send us the f31...

My anger about wagons is that BMW only sends us the base model. If they would send us 335i and 335d wagons, they would probably outsell 328i wagons hand over fist and I'd lay money that one would be parked in my garage. 335i m-sport alpine white on black with my 19" VMR 710's pictured in my sig...

Half of F11s I see here in Germany are wagons. Same goes for MBs and Audis. They do not look hideous at all.

With that said, BMW, please bring the F11 wagon (preferably 535d) to the US!

A crossover is the child between a mini van and a suv not a wagon.

And I for one believe that the F11 is one of the best looking vehicles I have ever seen. I think many wagons are actractive vehicles: CTS, Volvos, Audi A4s, and the E39/E46 wagons. The E61 was a mistake esp the rear of it. It just didn't look right.

+1 I really hope that they bring this over here too!! That would be spectacular.

When I went to Germany a few months ago I was totally blown away by how amazing the F11 looked.
