sidewalls are just the same if you were running 20's. i think with 21's you have more rim to look at that the tires seem even smaller. those are beefy 165 and 305's!

I disagree.

OEM 20" M5/M6 tire sizes are 265/35-20 front and 295/30-20 rear.

265x0.35 = 93mm
295x0.30 = 89mm

265x0.30 = 80mm
305x0.25 = 76mm
