Vinyl wrapping window trim and other chrome pieces
Hi All,
I'm new to the forum. Wish I would've found this sooner! I have an F10 550i without the sport package so have a chrome trim around my windows. I'd like to vinyl wrap the chrome pieces: window trim, fender side marker, front reflector, and door handles). Went to a Fast Signs to get a quote on how much they'd charge for the 3M Vinyl wrap and they're charging $489 including installation. This sounds ridiculously expensive. Anyone know of a cheaper alternative and preferably in Los Angeles or Socal that can do a great job and hook it up? Thanks for the help guys, hopefully there's a better option out there... |

Thanks for the help bro. Alhambra is very close and Promax sounds much more reputable than Fast Signs. |

I found this site. Does anyone have experience of doing this yourself? I'm pretty good with a razer blade!

I have a friend that does this type of work and it looks painfully tedious. You can certainly try but you'll find out why people charge to do the work.
Most places dont remove the window trim when working on it, as they risk breaking something. The reflectors and fender trims are easy, I did it myself, if I could do it, anyone can. |

Did you go with Gloss black? Would Gloss or Matt look better for my Jet Black car? |

First Attempt
I purchased two rolls of shadowline matte black my first attempt wasn't good, even after study a few videos and researching but I'm not giving up. I will make a go at this again tonight? Some of the problems are when you hit the curves on the windows the vinyl does curve well. One site instructed to remove the window trim, but most the other site don't remove the trim. I’m open for any suggestion?

Sorry to hear that. You might want to use a hair dryer to help smooths out the bends. That's what the tint guys do with the rear glass. I assume the straight section was easier.

You should try plasti-dip paint.
Cool removable paint. I bought some to try on my wheels. The cool thing, is if you don't like it, just peel off. http://www.dipyourcar.com/shop/page/1?shop_param= video: http://www.dipyourcar.com/shop/page/36?shop_param=

Anybody end up doing vinyl on the trim? Just curious if anybody has any tips out there. I did the side markers today, and they weren't easy. The concave section was tough, but a hair dryer helped the vinyl stretch enough to pull it off. Tomorrow I'm going to try to tackle the door handle trim (easy, I'm sure), and the window trim (those make me nervous).
Anyway, please let me know if you have any tips for the window trim! I'll post some pictures when I'm all done, and after I get the new flat black 20's put on next week! |
