Water Stain Inside Instrument Cluster

Hi,

I have a few water mark stains (I guess from condensation?) on the inside of my instrument cluster. I know this is a sealed unit and there is probably no way to fix this short of a new instrument cluster ($2,500 I am told, not going to happen!). However, just in case, does anyone know if there is a repair service (or DIY solution) for this problem?

Regards,

Marcus

Of course the dealer or indy shops will tell you to install a new unit because that's the safest route for them to go. You can open any of these sealed fixtures and instruments by using a high power blow dryer or baking it.

It is easy to get the cluster out of the car, and a minute to remove the face plate and clean it. There are some You Tube videos about removing the F10 cluster. It is as easy as it looks. Once it's out, you'll see the TORX screws which hold the face plate.

+1, I've had my cluster apart dozens of times. Piece of cake.

Can someone direct me to a video showing how to remove the front cover/screen? I have found lots of videos showing how to remove the instrument cluster (very simple) but none showing how to get the front screen off for repair.

Here you go. It looks like you don't even need to use any heat since it's not sealed by glue.

Thanks to the previous two contributors to this post I finally worked up the courage to remove the instrument cluster and clean off the condensation stains on the inside. Looks perfect now. However, the CEL is now on, even though the iDrive menu tells me everything is OK. Will post on how to set the CEL.
