Car is shaking at 100-120 Km/h after new wheels
hi all, i have 535i and i've replaced my oem set to oem 343M wheels with 255/35 front and 285/30 rear, and after i went out to test drive i found the car is shaking between 100 to 120 KM and above 120 it shakes but less, what can be the reason? is it wheel mis balancing? or tier pressure. the workshop advised to fill the tiers with Nitrogen not air, can it be the tier pressure? what is the best air pressure for this set?
thank you |

Car is shaking, The steering wheel vibrating? Sounds like the wheels aren't balanced correctly. The OEM 343M wheels are they new? Any previous damage? Tires new? What brand are they?

these are PSS brand new tiers. yes the steering is vibrating little too. the 343M wheels have 5000KM on them, but they are fine and have no damages. may be it was balance incorrectly or might be alignment?

also, this may be easily overlooked, but you want to check if the lugs were tightened properly.
I had a shop NOT properly tighten one of the lugs of my wheels, and when I drove faster than 60mph, the steering would rattle and the car should shake (not sure if its the same description as yours since these things are hard to describe). by the time the shop was able to look at it again, the rattling of the rims on the bolts were so violent that the one bolt had most of its threads stripped. Cost $200 to pull the old bolt out, and put in a new one. A rookie mistake that should have been avoided.

I had a similar problem and thought it was a balancing issue... turned out it was a worn track rod end (inner).. jack up the front of the car both sides.. grab the tyre at 9 and 3 oclock and if there's any rocking then that's the problem...
