? for those who have used reverse emulator
i've seen the different options on adding a reverse camera on my f10. i've seen those emulators that you tap into the wiring harness and have a quick questions.
when your going into reverse i know the PDC will activate and you will also see the reverse camera image, but does the reverse camera go away when you switch back to Drive? or does the reverse camera still stay on? does it come on if your in park but hit the PDC button? im wondering because i want to add a front camera, and thinking if camera stays on as long as PDC is activated, then i can easily just add a switch to choose between front or rear camera. i just want to see quickly if im close enough to any curbs as im lowered and have a lip. |

76 people viewed and not a single reply, but let me ask it differently...
those with stock back up camera, when you press the PDC button, does the camera also turn on? or only when in reverse? and does it stay on when back into drive. |

It is automatic. Shift gear to reverse and the rear camera comes on. You can choose from rear view, side view, or top view. When you shift to D, camera turns off. I haven't installed anything aftermarket related to camera.

at slow speeds the camera will stay on when driving forward also, and this is true in all 3 modes.

Yes
Yes, you can activate the rear camera without shifting to reverse and it will stay on while you drive forward slowly.
When you are driving slow and press the PDC button the PDC function starts. The default is it comes up with just the color distance display with no camera video. However there are selections beside it that you can select with the IDrive knob. The default selection is "Turn on camera". (It's an icon, not those words) Select that and the camera will turn on the same as if you shifted to reverse. So basically, when driving slow or stopped and you want to see the camera, you press the PDC button, and then once the function is active press the I-Drive knob (which has defaulted to "turn camera on"), and then you should have backup camera video and the distance color bars. I have a '14 LCI M5 and use this feature alot, mainly to see how close the latest motorbike has brought his tire to my rear bumper when at a red light, or to pull into my garage and line up the bumper in reference to the garage door landing point so as to leave as much space in front of the car as possible. -Dave |
