Courteous to other BMW drivers?
This is the second BMW I have owned and the last one was over 15 years ago. I owned mostly Audi and Lexus in between that time. One thing I notice about driving my Audi and Lexus is that other Audi and Lexus owner are very Courteous toward other drivers with the same brand. I am not so sure with BMW drivers. So far, I have been cut off, honk at and given the bird by other BMW drivers, and it has only been two weeks. What is it with the BMW drivers, what ever happen to common courtesy toward your fellow BMW owners?

Haha, I always let Bmw's, Merc's and Audi's in front me as a courtesy. I rarely ever get the same treatment back.
I also always give the thumbs up to F10 Msport drivers, but all of the MSport's near me think I'm giving them the bird and are too quick to give the bird back. Oh well. |

I don't know about where you guys live, but the general stereotype of Bimmer drivers here is that they're all douche bags. And to be honest, most of them prove that stereotype regularly.
So expect no courtesy. In fact, expect to be cut off, honked at, given the finger, and probably treated like you're just as offensive a driver as they are just because you drive one. I know when I see other BMW drivers, I automatically assume they either bought it for the status or their parents have too much money. Rarely do I ever encounter someone who says "I bought it because it was the best engineered drivers car on the market". Believe it or not, the most courteous group of owners I've experienced is amongst Harley riders. Second to that might be Corvette and/or VW... but as each of those brands becomes more mainstream that cult following is getting watered down too (vette/VW, not HD). |

There is clearly a stereotype against us. Everyone assumes we are asshole douchebag idiots. However, in my experience the most sane drivers are BMW drivers around these parts. Always see them with both hands on the wheel, not hogging the left lane, not eating or talking on the cell phone, and driving mostly within the speed limits. No joke. But we still get a bad rap

courteous to all drivers, do not notice any more/leses courteous other BMW drivers to me. I loved it when I had my Subaru Impreza, felt like a sense of community cause we would always acknowledged each other when we pass by, even if cars weren't fixed up.

I see many BMWs driving too slow or just slow. Maybe this is the reason?

Same here. At least with the 5 and 7 series drivers I see.

never had bad experiences with people in 5's or 7's.. (except for the older ladies that take their sweet time on the road)
3 series owners on the other hand are just a pain in the rear to deal with... i'm assuming there's a correlation because of age (i'm roughly in the same age group tho haha)

Nice to all other BMW drivers and I know the rules of the road... I bow to anything more expensive (greater than) me.

However, the instant reaction from anyone who hears you bought a BMW is "Oh, you got a BMWWWW", as if only assholes buy BMWs. If I pulled up in a Hyundai Equus, people would compliment me on how smart I was...

We all have our road prejudices. Personally, over the years, I try not to let that get in the way of enjoying my drive.
It is not the car / van / truck, it is the person that sits behind the wheel of the other vehicle, that you are giving the courtesy to, or receiving it from. An apt quote for this thread, may be ... "Be the change you want to see in the World" (Mahatma Gandhi) |

Personally, I think it is because there are two types of BMW drivers. 1: Rich assholes that buy the car for JUST a status symbol and to brag to everyone else they are a success and 2: Car Enthusiasts that LOVE these cars, the power they provide, the way they let you feel the road, yet provide creature comforts and the modifications you can do to these vehicles. Personally, I fall into category 2! Driving a 2008 BMW 328xi currently, but if all goes well, that will be upgraded to a 2011 550i with Xdrive and all the bells and whistles I can find in the pre owned market!

Debadged 3 series = idiot driver. In the UK the 3 series is now the most popular mid-size saloon (sedan) outselling Ford, Vauxhall (GM) etc... So all the sales reps get them as company cars and drive them like maniacs No wonder everyone hates us
