impressed with Adaptive headlights / bi-xenon
Despite owning by 530d for 6 months now, last night was the first time I had completed a journey in the dark on unlit twisty roads.
Up to now, I hadn't really seen any advantage of the adaptive lights around towns and on motorways, but last that changed and felt that the lighting ensured thet I had all of the road evenly lit ahead where it was required. The bi-xenon was also very useful and not once did I have to overide it. As soon as the samera picked up on the tailights or headlights of other cars it would set the lights back to dipped beam again. There were a few occasions where reflections cause it to go back to dipped beam agiain but the whole very good. I am glad i had these options on the car. I also found it was very beneficial turning off the control display as that was quite bright against a black outside. With the satnav directions on the HUD, there was no need anyway. |

The Visibility Package is brilliant isn't it!
Adaptive bi-Xenon's with High Beam Assist is just wonderful. I think High Beam Assist works wonderfully! I've always loved how the lights follow the road and this is just exaggerated on an unlit twisty road to look absolutely spectacular. I very recently posted this in the F30 forum which will demonstrate what you've just been doing

BTW, your ride seems pretty bumpy, is that the camera or does your 3-series really bob about that much? HighlandPete |

good video, didn't realise the F30 had even more clever lights. I guess may be coming to the F10 with the LCI?
For any of you considering adaptive lights, I'd say go for it although in my opinion, you won't get the benefit of them in town and on motorways. They really come into their own on unlit twisty roads. Those though you'd argue where you really need the most help you can get at night. |

The adaptive Bi-Xenons are amazing. Half my daily commute is through wooded twisting roads along some forested areas in the DC region, and Xenon headlights just do a fabulous job of lighting up the road and lighting up the corners so I can go through them quickly with confidence. Xenons are a must have option (standard on the 5 here) on any BMW. I wish I had the auto hi-beams, because I would use them all the time, but alas...
I would drop every option before the Xenons |

There's another, brilliant and smooth road I want to film on with some spirited driving but the weather and conditions haven't been permitting for a long time! Ha, the 3er rides well for a sports saloon, but honestly the roads round here are fooked. Take me over in a Phantom and it'd still be shaky footage! Also, I'm not known for my steady camera holding as you can ascertain from the comments on my post popular YouTube video here! Maybe I should invest in a GoPro with a mount...
