Dealer discount on certified car

I'm looking to join the BMW club as a 2014 528i owner. for a dealer asking price of $30k, what kind of discount can I reasonably expect to get. I'm looking to buy within the next week - any help appreciated.

It all depends on the specs. If you can, post the link for the car.

Also, feel free to use kbb or truecar to get an estimate on price.

Hi - I was considering these two (or something similar)

Who knows? Every dealer, every car, every day is different. I think long-term happiness is much more likely paying $500 to much for exactly the right car than getting something you don't quite love... so I pay more attention to getting a great car at a good price than vice-versa.

+1

All bets are off when buying a used car. Just shop around until you find the car that you like and go from there. No 2 used cars are the same.

OK so Y'all just go find a CPO car you like and pay whatever the dealer is asking. Their profit margin is far far more on CPO than new - yet no one asks for something off the ask??? wow

Not me. When I bought my CPO 535 I paid the asking price.... But it was an out-the-door price. IIRC, I paid a couple grand under the asking price.

No, and based on your signature, you have purchased enough cars to know how the game is played.

Everyone's situation is different.

For starters; I would not even consider the car that you have listed above. In addition to that, CPO really doesn't mean much to me as BMW will certify pretty much any low mileage car. The car that you have listed is a good example. It has been in an accident!!!! I would much rather look for a nice clean car that is still under warranty and extend that warranty before it expires.

IF I really wanted that car, I would start at $20K and have them sit on the car for 90 days before paying another visit to them. My max price would be $22K. I am pretty sure, they will eventually settle.

Now, here is another one local (to me), that is accident free and has super low miles. On this one, I would go in at $30K see what they would counter but most likely settle for $34K as it is M-Sport, it is super clean and also has great options.

http://www.bmwseattle.com/certified/...f2c6b5154b.htm\

Some folks might disagree with me but that's how I buy my cars.

Hope this helps.

And for the record, if anyone is paying dealer's asking price for a ordinary car, they need to get their heads examined.

Wow, you're an odd individual to help.

Were you looking for a mathematical formula?

How about this:

CPO$FAIR = KBB/3*Mileage+OptionsMSRP-Scratches+3(only if it has heated seats)

There. Go use that and quit wasting our time.

with used car its going to be based on what other comparables there are. NJ market is tough especially on AWD cars. I would say 500 would be decent and 1k off would be a stretch.

Says M Sport yet has the base oil cooler??????

edit:
Then again the VIN decodes M-Sport package. Doesn't say on the Carfax but maybe the engine was replaced for some reason??

Thanks - now I am finally getting some useful information. Yes I have bought many cars and know how the game is played. I haven't bought used for some years and it is a little different game. I wanted to hear from people who have recently bought used. Thinking the dealer has more room to uh "deal" than on new.

Try to determine how the dealer acquired the car. If it was a trade-in or auction buy, there is likely room to negotiate. If it was an off-lease purchase from BMW or a lease pull-ahead car, there is likely less room. One would think this does not matter because dealers look at aggregate sales, but often they look at per car profits. None of this is absolute, just one small insight into the game.

If you trust what carfax says alone, you are in trouble from get go.

The car is a true LCI M-Sport and no need to create stories.

You obviously don't have much buying experience, or you would have been able to add something useful to the conversation other than Sarcasm.

Thanks - I had always thought these were mostly lease returns. It appears there is no easy answer here. Condition, options, miles, color, local market all come into play.

Just an example: OK, not a 5 Series but I just bought a CPO 2013 650xi Coupe that was a leased car (3 yrs) with 14,500 miles and immaculate condition. Almost 1 year warranty left with dealer added 2 years. Asking $57,400 and dropped to $54,000.

You asked for a blanket answer on "How much discount can I get on a CPO car" as though every dealership has the same mark up, same inventory, and same customer preferences.

I gave you an answer.

You posted later that based on the responses you got... which were all well intentioned... that we must just all bend over and pay full asking price.

So sarcasm? Yeah, you're going to get that.

You might try the "SEARCH" feature since this question has been asked a million times by uber experienced buyers like you.

Best of luck finding a cheap car.

Something I learned recently is that if you can find a CPO car on a non-BMW dealers lot then you will get it for probably around the same price as a Non-CPO car since we know that a CPO car brings a premium. Only a BMW dealer can list and sell a CPO car as a CPO car. That's how I got my CPO MSport for what I feel like was a great deal.

but how would you know that from browsing through the website? and you'll have to just give the benefit of the doubt from the other sales guys when they say its CPO or did you ask for proof?
