535 and 550 share same spring rate?
Hello, been looking and searching around the web to see if 535 and 550 share the same front spring rate. I would think they'll be different because the V8 would be a lot heavier up front so the spring rate would be much higher for the 550i. I'm asking because I found a local sale for a set of H&R sport springs for a really good deal. But I have a 535i and the guy who is selling it has a 550i. He said it'll fit; I know it will fit, he said it'll give me the same drop as his 550i; I'm second guessing it won't. I checked on some websites and H&R 528i/535i share the same part number but different from 550i.
Anybody knows for sure or installed H&R 550i spring on a 535i? Any advice would help. Thanks. |

I would assume that, because the springs main job is to hold the weight of the vehicle, the would be a lot stiffer and vehicle would sit lower with bad handling if you were using 535i springs on an 550i. The 528i and 535i are close enough in engine weight for there not to be a difference.

I cannot give you a definitive answer on that, but an anecdote of back in the day, I saw a guy with a B5 A4, who put B5 S4 factory springs on his car and it actually raised it in the front!

ACS has different part numbers for the front springs.
528i: 3133 21 0110 535i: 3133 21 0310 550i: 3133 21 0410 I'm sure it's the same with the OEM springs. OEM spring rates can even differ with different option on cars with the same drivetrain. |
