Interesting New Widget

Stumbled across a new widget tonight; looks very interesting.

https://labs.bmw.com/data/en_Instructions.pdf

https://ifttt.com/recipes/search?q=Bmw

Already set up some recipes and have the widget activated in the car; will find out tomorrow if it works or not. I can see this having lots of potential.

I looked at this a while back but could find no use for it whatsoever. Let us know if you find it can actually do something useful.

I have set up a geo fence that tells the family (via an email) when I enter a roundabout on the way home from work, so they know when I will be home...

I have also set it up to notify what range is left when fuel is running low.

Who does it notify when the fuel is running low that has any influence on the situation?

It could hardly notify the driver so what use is it?

To me there might be other triggers that could potentially do something useful but I can't think of any.

I'm with xenon, I installed the app some time ago and I've gone through all the recipes but can't for the life of me find any use for them, certainly not without using them just got the sake of it.

I installed it as well, but haven't bothered to use it much. It can control my heating (Nest) based on a geofence which might be more useful in the winter, it can drop you an email with gps co-ordinates / link to google map when you park, open/close your garage door for you etc etc

How useful it is depends on how much home automation you have.

The parking recipe could be useful but I don't want a message every time I park the car, if I lose the car I can always locate it via BMW Remote anyway.

It's useful that it can send my wife a text when I'm nearly home based on a geofence. I think it has huge potential especially with home automation.

It brings up a notification on the iDrive screen with the remaining range. No excuses for running out, if, like me, you do short journeys and think you have enough fuel for one more journey then another... But not essential as you can of course look at the fuel gauge or press the computer button to see the range....
