Folding Mirrors.....should have RTFM...

So, was locking my car at the weekend and ended up holding the BMW button down a little longer than normal......to my surprise, the folding mirrors went in ..............did everyone know that the LCI cars fitted with electric folding mirrors did this or was I the only one in the dark

Definitely should have

Is this new for the LCI? I knew mine did it, and I was wondering why folding mirrors was something people wanted coding.

Now, is there anything in the manual about how to see the warning light for automatic wipers without making a sudden swerve to the right?

I assume it's an LCI thing as most people with pre Jul13 cars seem to look for coding to do the same. If you knew, you should have shared the intel

Yes, the steering wheel does a great job to hide that and also the heated steering wheel blight too

I got the folding mirrors as part of that flashing triangle option.

I never checked to see if I had it
But now that it's coded I use it all the time
My five year old thinks it it's magic

Mirrors have always folded in when holding lock. If you open again with the key fob the unfold at unlocking. If you press the little button on the door near the window controls then when you unlick they don't fold out. Can be hand if expecting it to freeze etc. To unfold you press the button again.

Maybe the OP was asking more about the surprise of them being included, quite a few seat/safety options include the folding mirrors I think.

Chester - yes, I'd always been using the button and wanted to get them coded, I never realised I had the feature on the remote all the time

Thanks

Blind Spot Monitoring - the ordering system automatically added it to the car when I selected BSM, its on the order form as an added item.

Sorry Beanie, thought you knew that, only the main reason for actually having the things! Also, the reason people talk about coding them, is so that they automatically close without holding the button.

As an aside, in case people did'nt know, if you hold the close button for a few seconds, as well as closing the mirrors, it also closes all the windows, and sunroof if you have it I believe

Gspannu coded this for me. I knew my mirrors folded on long hold but you can code exactly how long a long hold is. My long hold is now about half a second. Basically always folds unless I specifically want to avoid this in freezing conditions.

So this doesn't work in Pre-LCI cars?

If you have Electrical Folding Mirrors (regardless of pre LCI or not); these always fold/ unfold with the KeyFob.

You need to hold the KeyFob for about 1.5 seconds.

What can be changed via coding is to change this duration. Most people would set the time to about ½ second; so you have to hold the key fob for a cry short duration.

Most of you would know, but if you don't try this...

While unlocking your car, keep holding the key fob and your windows will start to drop down as well. Same on locking; if your windows are open, keep holding the lock button, and they will slide up automatically.

I never knew this. I have often re-opened the door to press the button to fold. Soon as I return to Heathrow and collect my car I will be trying it out.

I am going to be gutted if it doesn't work for me.....

Yes and very irritating it is too, I turn it off most of the time

The 8 touch sensitive buttons are still very useful, my colleague thought they were radio station presets

Have to agree. The "comfort close" function is explained in detail in the manual. You don't have to be a "BMW God" you just need to know how to read....

......yes I know, I know.................. but where's the fun in that. I knew about the global close, but didn't realise it did the mirrors too. I do tend to find the reverse feature a little annoying like Piers.

Anyway, seems I wasn't completely alone and a few people have learnt something, so all good

Why is the reverse feature annoying? Switch it off, it's only a simple slide of the switch to the alternative position. It is not as if we need the switch in the 'driver' position which activates the mirror drop, we aren't adjusting the door mirror each time we drive. Just use the feature when you need it.

Actually annoying is too strong a word HP, and yes, I do switch it off, but sometimes I do use it to see kubs, but then I find it dips down when I just want to reverse into a space without a kurb, eg a car park.

I also need to read up to see how to adjust the 'reverse' position.
