Stupid Question on 2011 550 Msport

Hi everyone, newbie here. Just pulled the trigger on a 2011 Imperial Blue 550Xdrive Msport with Cinnamon interior. I have spent several weeks searching for the right car and find the color combo to be striking. I pick it up in a week and trade in an excellent 2010 B8 S4. My question is does the Msport automatically include dynamic handling? I really wanted this option as I've read it's a difference maker. It's very hard to figure out the option packages.

Thanks in advance and I apologize if this question has been covered before. One more question while I am at it: should I go for blackout grills on Imperial Blue?

The answer is no. DHP is an option on all F10s - about $3500, so understandably many buyers opt to pass it up. But it IS significant IMHO - I believe it makes the car handle significantly better than any passive system, no less makes it more comfortable when necessary over just a standard sport suspension.

Ask the dealer to confirm via the sticker. You can also run the VIN and see if it's included. You can't tell by sight alone. All F10s will have the "dynamic drive" rocker switch in the center console, but it'll only impact steering weight and throttle response for cars without DHP.

I don't believe this part is true. I recently picked up a 2011 550 Msport, and in my search, I saw many F10's that did NOT have the rocker switch. (This may only be true for 2011's) The lack of the rocker switch in pictures actually made it easy for me to eliminate many cars out there for sale.

Ahh, OK - I apologize for the bad info! I was under the impression that every 5 had the switch but it only adjusts throttle/steering in non-DHP cars... at least that's what I've seen on every '14 and '13 since I've been researching the 5. Admittedly, I hadn't looked at the '11's when they came out. But I did confirm - a quick search of some 2011 5's online shows many without the rocker switch!

So, I guess the advice to the OP would be:

1. Check for rocker switch.

2. If rocker is present, it still may or may not have DHP.

3. Look up equipment using VIN and verify with original sticker.

Here is where I am confused. According to Motor Trend, the description of the MSport package includes the following:

M Sport Package - $6,500

Responsive suspensionfeatures driver selectable, adjustable anti-roll bar and electronic-control; Adaptive Drive; Front and rear alloy wheels: 19"; Front and rear all-season tires includes: run-flat; M steering wheel; Shadowline exterior trim; Increased top speed limiter; Aerodynamic kit; Includes: [456] Multi-Contour Seats And [775] Anthracite Headliner; Excludes: [ZDH] Dynamic Handling Package; Requires: [4B5] Light Wood Trim; Or [4B9] Aluminum Trim; Or [4CE] Anthracite Wood Trim; If: [4B5] Light Wood Trim; Discount: 0.00; If: [4B9] Aluminum Trim And Not; [4B5] Light Wood Trim; Or [4CE] Anthracite Wood Trim; Discount: 0.00; If: [4CE] Anthracite Wood Trim And Not; [4B5] Light Wood Trim; Or [4B9] Aluminum Trim; Discount: 0.00

Here is the description of the Dynamic Handling Package:

Adaptive Drive; Responsive suspensionfeatures driver selectable, adjustable anti-roll bar and electronic-control; Driver modes includes suspension; Requires: [ZSP] Sport Package

From these descriptions it looks like the Dynamic Handling is included in the MSport.

Any one have any other thoughts?

At least in 2011 the m-sport package included the DHP in the US.

Man, I'm going to keep screwing you up here since I don't have an '11. From the description you sent, it looks like the 2011 M Sport package included DHP. On the latest model packages, M Sport is only about $3,050 and DHP is another $3,500, which needs to be purchased separately and is optional.

Sooo... I hesitate to comment further and screw you up... BUT, from what you've posted here, the description of YOUR M Sport package appears to include DHP, which consists of the adjustable dampers and active anti-roll.

Someone with a 2011 w/ these options should really confirm.

What I WILL say is that it's an awesome system, and you're spot-on for wanting to get it on the car.

No worries, I appreciate your thoughts. I can tell you I was going nuts trying to figure this out for days. I think the 11 has it but it's not very easy to figure out.

All 2011 M-Sport's have it. That is one of the reasons I went with the CPO 2011 that I did as well. Can't wait to see pics of your ride. Congrats.

Mine has it too and I have the original invoice that states the same. Also have driven a newer model without it and you can positively tell the difference. It's no M3 but amazing for a big car

Congrats- that color is awesome
