This looks like a challenge for those coders amongst you, see if the feature can be turned on by e-sys. (Unless the actual hardware is different)

I agree,
If I lived in US and bought the LED lights I would be furious getting that trimmed down version without full disclosure from the dealer.

The high beam assist in the 2014 M5 (US) will dim the lights independently. So it not all on or all off as with the X5. I'm just not sure if the lights will split when approaching another vehicle as seen in the video. I'll try to test it tonight to see what happens.

Also, there is no option to enable high beam assist via the iDrive. Only a button on the turn signal stalk (split/1 info, 1 high beam assist).

I was wrong! The high beams do not operate independently! I just did a quick test, and it was either all on or all off. Sorry for the misinformation.

Update:

My adaptive LED headlights do work
Thank you, it was simply because I misunderstood the option within the i-drive menu.

I'm pretty impressed with the technology, it's interesting to see how the headlights try to light up as much of the road as possible without blinding the other drivers.

I would like to increase the sensitivity so they're activated earlier. I haven't figured out the parameters yet but it seems like they tend to be activated above a certain speed.
It would be interesting to know how variables that can be changed via coding.

I picked up my car the other night, and while going over things, my SA confirmed that the auto high beams turn BOTH beams on and off, not just one side. This is for a U.S. spec'd car.

The LED headlights shift slightly left to right as you turn the steering wheel. The best way to see this is to have the headlights shine on the garage door or wall. When you turn the wheel, you will see the shift.

That's not what people are discussing.
The consensus is that the lights are delivered in US spec'ed cars with missing features.

Relax old man. We are all on the same team. It is not a missing feature when the laws prohibit it. I am reading the thread wishing or hoping that someone finds a workaround to enable it, but it appears that there isn't one yet. At this point, it's really no mystery - It's not available here in the US. I have also found that most of the dealers and sales people are not as knowledgeable on these cars as they should be much less be able to understand the differences in features and how they function between countries. My comment was highlighting a function of the lights that others may not be aware of. I am trying to add value to the thread while you are just complaining.

I'm very relaxed and on top of the world because of my new great car.
I meant missing 'hardware' not 'feature' - the missing feature is because of the missing hardware. It can't be coded. But that's not the topic of this thread.

Everyone here are well aware of the basic adaptive headlights.
And I'm not complaining at all. I think you misunderstood something

OP: could we arrange to read the coding data off your modules?

I'd like to compare to the values to a US-spec'ed car.
This is the only way to find out whether this is a hardware or regional specs issue or both.

Another question: Can it be right that I need to activate the high beam assistant each time i start the car? I would like the adaptive lights to be on all the time as standard (If i can make them work)
The coding to have the High Beam Assistant on by default has been written as follows. Disclaimer: I've not yet coded this in a car and tested the results but I have verified the syntax.

2011-12 (CIC)
FRM => 3050 => FLA_VERBAUT => aktiv
FRM => 3050 => FLA_AUTO_AKTIV => automatisch
KAFAS2 => 3050 => FLA_ON_OFF => aktiv
HU_CIC => 3000 => HIGH_BEAM_ASSISTANT => aktiv
2012-13 (NBT) and 2014 LCI
FRM => 3050 => FLA_VERBAUT => aktiv
FRM => 3050 => FLA_AUTO_AKTIV => automatisch
KAFAS2 => 3050 => FLA_ON_OFF => aktiv
HU_NBT => 3000 => HIGH_BEAM_ASSISTANT => aktiv

I checked real OEM and the European and US cars have the same LED part #'s for all the components in the headlight housing. If they are correct it's just coding to get it working. Hopefully some European owners will send their entire SVT tree for comparison with US models. I know there's more to the coding than just removing 5AP and 8S4 from the VO. There's 2 TSM modules that have all the LED headlight data so I'm betting those modules will have to be coded as well.
