Wheel spring-clean

When I took delivery of my F10 last September I removed the wheels, thoroughly cleaned them, then polished with Werkstat and sealed with Poorboys.
Did the same today and this is what they look like after 6.5k miles and 6 months of a fierce Scottish winter.

Lovely. Too bad the brake dust on this car will turn the wheel black in about 1 day. Have you tried the Armor All Wheel Protectant?

As I said in my post, those pictures were taken today after a quick clean following 6.5k miles accumulated over the past 6 months - thanks all the same, but seeing as the wheels have been protected from brake dust for around 180 days, I reckon I'll stick with the Werkstat and Poorboys.

Interesting. So I assume you've still cleaned them during that 6.5k miles as part of normal washing?

I've just been cleaning mine with R222 wheel gel as it's non acidic. Keeping them looking like new so far. Had a couple of tar spots on fronts but a quick clay bar soon sorted that.

Not used the werkstat or poorboys stuff before but results look good.

Yes, of course, but nothing more aggressive than a soft brush over the outside and through the spokes with Meguiar's shampoo. Today was the first time the inners were properly cleaned in 6 months.

OK, good, that's what I know as well. I called about 20 different places and got about 10 different answers.

When you say Werkstat/Poorboys, which of their specific products are you using? Thanks

My info came from the very helpful senior technician at my local dealership; he printed the relevant BMW service instruction page for me. Doesn't get any more unequivocal than that.

You think it would be a simple answer that everyone would know. OK, now that I think about it we had this conversation last year. Do you use a lug nut guide tool or do you just hold the wheel with brute force when putting it back on?

Werkstat Acrylic Jett and Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, both very easy to use and available from these guys: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/
PS: just noticed that you're in the US, but the quoted website is excellent for all kinds of advice.

Once the wheel is mounted onto the hub spigot there's no problem in starting the bolts, but you need to be very careful to prevent the wheel inner contacting the razor sharp disc shield. For this reason I've decided to make a guide tool from a long M14 bolt.

Okay Jon, you gave me some inspiration to clean and seal my wheels as well. Your wheels look like brand new, amazing!

To do a really good job, I guess I'd have to take off the wheels but I'm too lazy for that.

The only way to get the inners properly clean is to take the wheels off, but you already know that . Spring is here and that means you can no longer use the weather as an excuse, it's time to get out of bed and start polishing .

Interesting here too! After reading your comment I spoke with the guys at Polished Bliss about R222 and was categorically assured that it will not strip the polish and sealant I applied on Tuesday, so I bought a litre of the spray and will try it as soon as the wheels look a bit dirty.
I hope you realise that if it does undo all my good work and strip the sealant, I shall hold you personally responsible .
