F11 winter traction
Im very impressed with the traction of the F11. The 520d has 55% of the weight over the rear wheels. I made a small clip with my mobile phone at a friends house. This hill is steeper than it looks, its actually difficult to walk there now. The owners of FWD dont drive down there now because they have a hard time to get up again. I had to try it of course
As you see no problem with the Beemer. I received a sms while recording, thats the terrible noise at the end |

That's just fantastic! Need to have snow tires next winter. Now snow here anymore, but driving in the snow with 275 wide summer tires is no fun at all

If you buy snow-tires try to get the scandinavian versions and not the ones made for continental Europe. The rubber is softer, alot better grip on snow and ice. You cant go faster than 190kmh with those, but that will be sufficient for some weeks during the winter I guess :-)

Cool video Touring! That should remove any doubt the F11 can handle snow.
My old E46 I had to turn traction control off when grip was close to zero. Otherwise it would choke the engine. The F11 feels very sophisticated and allows a balanced amount of slippage exactly when you need it. I think that shows in the video too. Last edited by frenil; 01-09-2011 at 04:07 AM.. |

I was using the "traction" mode which allows some wheel spin. Works perfect! Winter tires are Nokian R, 225/55-17.
I made the same thing with E46 330xi today shown below, with 205/50-17 Nokian R tires. As you see its a little pocket-rocket on snow. I actually had to brake halfway up the road not to fly into the street on top. That was not a problem with the F11 Absolutly love that car Last edited by Touring; 01-09-2011 at 08:50 AM.. |
