Question Difference between 8AT and Sport 8AT on 2012 cars with Driving Experience Control

I know that you got the Sport/Normal button with the sport 8-speed auto (code 2TB) until 2011, but what about now on the 2012 model with the new Driving Experience Control were all gets the Sport/Normal button?

Will the only difference be the paddles on the steering wheel?

Anybody knows??

AFAIK the SAT gets the paddles on the wheel, the leather wrapped main shifter, and a slightly different shape to the main shifter. You can see some pictures and discussion here:

As for any functional difference, it's unclear. Some believe the SAT package shifts quicker (would probably just be a software tweak). It's unclear if this is real or not, and if it is real, if this is quicker in some functionally better way, or just quicker to intentionally be more abruptly-sportier vs smoother.

I can't find 'Driving Experience Control' listed as an option on the BMW UK website. Do you mean Adaptive Drive + Variable Damper Control?

Yeah, I know about the paddles and the different shifters.

The question is, are the other differences still there with the new Driving Experience Control that includes a Sport/ECO PRO button even with the Sport auto. But I don't know if this is only a Europe.

No, I don't mean AD/VDC.

It's not an option here, but standard on all the cars no matter what transmission you've got, and it's includes Eco pro.

Edit:
Just looked at the UK configurator, and you do get the Sort/Eco Pro button as standard.
But I didn't find an info about it, and I don't know what it's called in UK.

"Driver Experience Control" simply refers to the "sport/comfort" rocker button. On 2010/11 cars it only came if you option-ed a dynamic handling and/or sport-transmission package. On 2012 it comes on all cars.

This means, in 2012 you get adjustment for sport/comfort transmission (and maybe steering) even if you don't by the Adjustable Dampers, ARS, or Sport Transmission. Begging the question, what does the Sport-Transmission really buy you?

However, in 2010/2011 you already got transmission adjustments with just the Adjustable Dampers (dynamic handling), so the question was just as true then. What does the SAT really buy you?

...I think the answer is... paddle shifters.

We know it's the same 8sp ZF transmission in the car, so any other difference would be a minor software difference. (shift points?) But even if it existed, that would be pretty minor. The ZF reportedly shifts in 200ms, so there isn't much room for difference there.

In my 2012 car, you don't get a separate Eco-Drive Pro button, but Eco Drive appears in the iDrive menu and is an extra on the list of the Dynamic Drive Control (i.e. the Sport+ thru Comfort + control).

I've only had the car a couple of days and haven't really concentrated on the new Eco features!

Pics...

Eco-Drive doesn't seem to have an effect on SAT as such, but it does add stop/start to auto boxes. I'm getting used to it and don't mind having stop/start, but I know that some don't welcome the addition! You can switch it off, with a new button underneath the engine start/stop button (as I understand the manuals gearboxes have always had in F10/F11)
