Smile Best new car prices in the UK

The UK today is the best place to buy the new 5 series (also Mercedes Audi etc)

I am starting to sound like a TV advert but anyone in Europe could make amazing savings by buying a left hand car in England.

In UK a 523i is £ 31200 , plus leather seats ambient light etc etc, as standard

a 523i in Germany is 41900 euros without the standard extras that are avaIable in UK and this is almost £ 5000 more ,

in Belgium 43,500 euros again without the extras available for the UK market,
in Spain 44,300 euros and again without the extras available for the UK, and so on...

and if we look at say a 535i or even a 550i the difference can be almost 20,000 euros!....

I ask why ....and you only need to pay the Tax in the UK to be able to use it in any EEC country without any hassle.

I don´t understand how it´s possible that in Spain the car is the most expensive ....when we are in a depth crisis....Spain is differentĦĦĦĦ

I had a BMW E46 320d, and now i have a XC90 and a CLK 320, and I am thinking change the CLK to the new 5. For me, it seem the best BMW in the last years....I´d like see it soon.

Wow! 523i base price in Poland is £44000. I have leather, auto, sport seats, xenon, PDC and some other lesser options (no comfort seats, no fancy wheels, no navigation) and even with a hefty teen % panEuropean corporate discount off list my reasonably specced 523i has worked out at £50000.

It's partly down to a weak pound and strong other currencies + we have 18% excise tax and 22% VAT on top of that.

According to the offical price list from BMW Denmark you have to pay € 95 700 for a 2011 BMW 523i or € 117 000 for a 535i. It takes 30 minutes to get to Denmark from where I live and the Swedish prices is approximately 38% of the Dansih prices. I sort of feel sorry for the Danes.

No, the US is the best place to buy a car. A base 535i can be had for like 30-32k euros if you do European delivery. I'm getting a loaded 550i xDrive for the equivalent of about 48.5k euros. They don't even sell the 523i here because it would lessen the brand's prestige (seen as too cheap).

Thats right,

UK is not the best place to buy a new car especially the 5 series. So much damn taxes and VAT. US is the best place and we get the same car for a much better pricing then you guys do in the UK. Sorry, but thats the truth. My family members pay too much for a similar optioned car in the UK as compared to me in the states.

I'm from Belgium and I recently ordered my 520d in the UK.
Delivery is scheduled for August.

I purchase the car tax free in the UK and pay VAT in Belgium.
It will be supplied LHD, with a French Belgian setup and EU conformity document.
I locked the Euro / Sterling rate with a FX term contract to avoid any bad surprise due to currency fluctuations.

Re. delivery, the procedure is quite simple.
I pay the car when it arrives in the UK and BMW sends me the documents so I can :
* pay VAT in Belgium
* get Belgian license plates
* insure the car in Belgium.

Once I have the plates and the car is insured, I travel to the UK delivery point. There's a delivery point near UK side of the Chunnel, about 2 hrs away by train (TGV Eurostar) from Brussels. There the vehicle is equipped with my Belgian license plates and I can return home with the car.

I'm paying a little more than 39k EUR in the UK (including Belgian VAT and extra cost for LHD). The same car in Belgium (including 5% dealer discount) is worth over 51k EUR.

That's a 12k EUR / 23% saving.

Prices may be even better in the States but for European customers, importing the car is not as straightforward and we may run into conformity issues.

Hi Karmakal, that sounds like a nice deal!
I was planning to do the same, in a few months.

Do you mind if I ask you, did you manage this directly with BMW (rather than a 3rd, importer, company)? and in that case, with BMW UK, right?
It would be great if you could provide some details - if you prefer you can send me a private message.

Thanks a lot in advance

PS: Just hope the Greek crisis doesn't ruin the Euro value and makes useless this kind of delivery...

Hi J-Raid,

I believe there's only one garage you can order BMW for export and it is :

BMW Park Lane International Sales
Tourist and Export Specialist

My contact is :

Charlie Menard
Email: Charlie.Menard@BMWParkLane.co.uk
Direct Tel: +44 (0) 207 495 9522
Internal Extension: 4522
Fax: +44 (0) 207 318 9317
www.bmwparklane.com

He's been very helpful.

I ordered the car in early March.
Since then, Sterling is up from 1.14 to 1.18 and it seems the base price for 520D was increased by about 1000 pounds but it is still a very good deal imo.

Yes , the base price of the car is cheaper in the US, but I think by the time you add the package options it becomes more expensive,

I have not worked it out yet ,but in the UK version , included are many free options , such as leather seats, ambient light etc. that are not free in the US version.

The base MSRP of a 550i with NO options included (and no xDrive) is 50,865 euros in the UK. I don't think you can even load up a 550i to that price in the US.. leather seats etc etc are all standard on the 550i btw.

BMW 535i

Hi there.

RUXP is quoting a price of approximately Euro 32000 for the 535i base. Where did you obtain that price. It seems BMW quotes $ 49130 for a overseas delivery.
Can you give a person or dealer to contact?

Thanks, Jesper Vesterlund.

Hi Karmakal,

Can you keep us posted on the ease of delivery. I am also planning to do the same and also living in Belgium.
Do you have to change the front lights or will the F10 be delivered directly with the correct Belgium conform lightblocks.

Thx,

Thx,
Not sure about the lightblocks.
Is there a special regulation in Belgium that does not apply elsewhere in the EU ?
As far as I know the car is supplied with EU conformity certificate and I understand this is all I need to register the car in Belgium.

My car is scheduled for delivery around mid-September. I will be able to tell you more by that time.

As opposed to what I believed, it's not possible to get your license plates in Belgium before collecting the car in UK. You get temporary UK plates valid for one month. Insuring the car with temp. UK plates in Belgium is no problem. All I need to do is call my agent before collecting the car and inform him of the chassis nr. of the new car.

So while your temp. plates are still valid you have to pay VAT, clear the customs (for a new car it seems to be quite straightforward and costs only 1 EUR stamp on a form). Once you have cleared the customs you receive a form that will allow you to obtain the Belgian license plates at the DIV (or transfer your current ones to the new vehicle).

I understand there's a customs office next the DIV so customs + DIV registration can be done in one stop.

PS : as you're from Belgium pls note the UK car is the 184 hp version and on-the-road tax will cost you about twice as much as the Belgian 162 hp tax-friendly version.

About the headlights: Probably they will be put to RHD specs for UK roads, so you will have to get them set to Belgium car-control specs. I think your local BMW dealer will be able to do this in a couple of minutes.

Do you know how the warranty will be arranged?

With the discount you get by ordering in the UK, the 1250 euro extra on tax will not be an issue, not ?

The whole car is supposed to be produced according to LHD specs. I'm almost sure the lights will match LHD and won't need any adjustment. Car documentation and on-board interface will be in French rather than English.

re. warranty, I asked the question. See answer from the dealership below.

>>I had 2 question re. the guarantee on the car.
>>Here in Belgium, its 2 years general constructor guarantee, 3 years guarantee on painting and 12 years guarantee against corrosion of metal parts on the body.
>>1) is the guarantee the same in the UK ?
>>2) if a problem arises, can I go to a garage in Belgium or do I have to bring the car back to the UK ?

Answer:
1) European guarantee is standard as per you email below
2) Yes all European cars are treated the same so no you do not have to come to the UK

All in all, before extra tax, I reckon I saved about 12k Euro. Minus 1.250 EUR tax, the saving is still over 10k. And I get to enjoy more hp.

All in all, apart from the bit investment in time you need to take to order the car in Londen, you save a huge amount.
What about the extra cost for LHD ? Is it much or neglectable. Also what are discount rates I can use to get my budget pricing ?

I know I am asking much info, but it is a too sweet of a deal.

Hi all

you guys shouldnt be complaining about the prices of the new BMW 5 in your countries.
you guys should be happy about the price.
because in the Netherlands we pay a shitload more then you guys.
for example:

523 50.000 euro
528 55.000 euro
550 95.000 euro

and beside the price I bet that Dutch version have less standaard equipment.

so guys be happy.
